Do we need a "Refuting the Freepers" forum? |
|
Maybe we could keep all those threads about how to refute those stupid freeper emails about how Kerry voted on military spending, etc.
I have one I'd like to jump into on another board. Spew about Kerry voting against various weapons systems, aircraft, etc (some are easy as they were junk). Can anyone point me in the right direction for this?

I definitely agree with the idea of a "Refuting the Freepers" forum. That is seriously such a good idea for this site.

5. Thanks, this is a big help. |

I usually stay out of this stuff because I don't want to bother to try and change their minds. But this lady is actively recruiting for shrub on that site with misleading stuff.
On edit: I just posted to that site where a lady is promoting * and linked to the FactCheck.org site. Also mentioned how her lower taxes now would result in her kids paying more later, and that I bet her state and local tax bill has increased.
There are others on that board that haven't made up their minds, and I hope I've gotten them to look at the facts vs the dumb rhetoric.

4. It would be nice to have a "war room" of sorts... |

7. yeah I would like that and if it could be a hide a thread that would |
|
even be better.....if they read and listened and hung around here awhile they would find out, they either need new friends or they need to stop talking to freepers until they learn how to debate the great points about kerry and dems....or they need to just listen.

8. Okay, how do we make this happen? |
|
Do I need to email the administrator? Hit "alert"?
We could have a rule where the topic has to be stated in the subject of the thread to make it easy to find.

Bush and Conservatives forum?
So much stuff gets put in general discussion when it could be placed in less visited forums. I go to the media forum sometimes, for example, but usually the discussions I'm looking for are in GD...same with every topic.
I think the idea is great either way. I get so many freeper forwards from my relatives and would love to be able to find where they were debunked by other DUers already.

I hate the idea of wasting DU space on their crap. Plus, it gives them credibility that they don't deserve.
If there was a "Refuting Right-Wing Spin/Talking Points" Forum, I would be for that.

14. I think that would be an excellent idea. |
|
Especially being that when I was quite new to DU, I had an idiot I worked with who kept insisting Kerry wasn't getting her vote because he was "against guns". I really had not researched that issue becuase it is probably the furthest thing from my mind with everything else we've got to worry about. I asked for help and got blasted by one or two DUers who thought I was a freeper. FAR from it.
But I agree, it would be nice to have a place to post questions that we get from 'them' so that we can collaborate and help get the right answers.

15. Some general guidelines... |
|
1. 90% of what gets forwarded in emails is Urban Legend stuff, and on Snopes under "Inboxer Rebellion."
2. It is crucial that you take the time to google those things that people say to you and research them yourself. We have to do better than just echoing talking points. We need to know what in fuck we're talking about. Otherwise we're just liberal ditto-monkeys.
3. Expanding on #2, its important that what you post about is what you feel passionate about. I spend less time on "Kerry did this/Clinton did that" garbage than I do on things like that ridiculous "Terror in the Skies" nonsense, that can get innocent people harrassed, beaten or even killed.
4. Engaging far Right Freeper types is a waste of your time. Its fine for blowing off some steam, or having some fun. In that case, be a real asshole, and call them lame, lousy fucksticks, or something like that. Otherwise, use your time to spread the POSITIVE message of what your candidates are going to do; what you believe in; what the world NEEDS. Don't get into "yeah but Clinton" pissing contests. Nobody has ever been swayed by one of those. You want swing voters? Tell them what you and your candidates have to offer.
5. Don't forget to use your time researching your own guys anyway; it sucks to be all behind someone and then find out they're molesting children or something. Make sure you know who your people are, and what they stand for.
6. Most importantly, don't take any advice from people who enumerate things on anonymous message boards. They probably are completely insane, and have a tiny bit of drool leaking out of the corner of their mouth. The only difference is whether its the left side or the right.
Pardon me, while I go wipe my mouth.

19. Refuting actual freepers? No. Refuting GOP bullshit? Yes. |
|
There's a difference.
Freepers aren't worthy of our attention. They are psychotic.
