Maybe people would know Kerry better if they focused on the Kerry RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT.

3. Drudge had it on his radio show.
He made it sound like she attacked the reporter, but it didn't sound all that bad to me. It was a reporter from a very conservative rag, according to Drudge, and he was trying to put words in her mouth and she got irritated. Drudge said she lunged at the reporter so I'm sure it will be all over the cable news soon enough.

did Drudge mention any of those things his heroes have done?

because I saw it. I think Teresa was remarkably restrained.

Don't think I could exercise such self-control if I was constantly scrutinized in an unflattering way.

12. It is just amazing
This is going to be all over tomorrow.

It will be taken out of the context of a reporter harassing the wife of the presidential candidate to the out of control woman that will be running the white house in November.

Meanwhile, Cheney can curse at senators and Arnie from California can call those who do not agree with him "GIRLIE MEN".

At what point will we return to a situation where we discuss ideas not words?

We operate in a world where Kerry is almost entirely dismissed by one simple phrase:
"Liberal Massachusetts Senator". That phrase is what causes people to tune out to his message.

Live and let live and all that. Hey, we're Democrats...we're allowed to have differences of opinion and still be in the party.

I guess I'm still feeling the effects of the RW hateblogs I've been reading today. What a bunch of pre-programmed automatons. It's refreshing to be back in a place where people can disagree and not be called TRAITOR!! I counted that word close to 40 times on one blog page. Jebus.

I have to wonder if the wingnuts hate Clinton so much because they are all in serious need of a bl@wJ@b and are too repressed to go get one, so they blame Clinton for getting what they really want and...jeez...I can't do it. There's no way I will ever understand them.

22. She is an excellent asset to the campaign and to this country.
She does wonderful things for lots of people who need help. she is a caring person and has been long before now and it shows in her actions. She speaks more than 5 languages and can communicate with people all over the world.

Conservatives are antagonistic and twists peoples words to try to say unkind things. He harped at her and did not let up. Anyone would have told the report to go away. She did. And I am glad she did.

If she scares you, I can't imagine what Bush does to you because he is a war criminal and very evil and has no trouble outing CIA agents or ruining someones character.

She is a breath of fresh air in a very 'unamerican' political environment that Bush Administration has created. And anyone with common sense knows that.

Keep Bush away from the media. He used to be the governor of Texas. He was and still is a right-wing fundamentalist ideologue posing as a conservative republican. He's worth a billion dollars (in favors that he can do for his fat cat supporters, in fact, he's priceless to them). He's a liability. He is completely tactless and lacks basic diplomatic and speaking skills. Why can't we have a clean President? He's failed at everything he has ever attempted. His wife is responsible for a death by auto. When he is quoted in the press, his remarks are, by turns, both laughable and, more often, utterly frightening. He doesn't have the intellect or the temperment for public office. Mark my words, he will be a drag on the country and could destroy it utterly.

You do realize that she isn't running for office, don't you?

69. I think it's about time Democrats told reporters what they thought of...
...their slanted, rightwing reporting. Particularly a reporter for a rightwing media outlet that is funded by Richard Mellon Scaife, the same guy that funded the "Arkansas Project".

Since when does civility to reporters include being stalked by a particular reporter asking the same question over and over. She had already given the twerp his answer....repeatedly...and he kept after her.

Speaking of "clean candidates", how's your boy going to come out of the Plame investigation? Speaking of "drags" on a campaign, how are Mrs. FratBoy and the twins doing?

Heinz Kerry said, "I didn't say that" several times to McNickle. She then turned to confer with Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and others. When she faced McNickle again a short time later, he continued to question her, and she replied, "You said something I didn't say. Now shove it."

Drudge isn't the only one who cought this. This story (and probably the video) will be on two (at least) news stations tomorrow. If it gets picked up by the national press the entire first day of the convention will be overshadowed by Theresa Kerry telling a reporter to "shove it". This will not play well with voters (especially "undecided").

Not smart!

49. Let's not forget this is Dicky Mellon Scaife's rag
I just saw the video on local news - WTAE Ch 4 - and I cheered Teresa! The reporter was being a typical "Scaife" reporter saying she said "UnAmerican activities" and what did she mean by that like it was something he wanted to hang her with. (Guess when Coulter says it it's hunky-dory).

You have to understand this idiot rag has been after Teresa for a very long time. 2 weeks ago they published an article that said she declared her and Kerry's Fox Chapel PA home as farmland "green" to avoid paying higher property tax.

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette rebutted Scaife's paper pointing out she wrote the Republican county manager that her land was undervalued and that she should pay more taxes and could afford to.

It's probably not what "Pickles" would do or say, but the media will determine if this is comparable to Cheney's "FUCK" spoken to a Senator on the Senate floor.

We can only hope it will go away like Hillary's famous "baking cookies" comments.

Make no mistake about it, the wing nuts will play this with Whoopi and "values" until we are all sick of it.

53. I hate to say it, but....
people in politics are held to a different standard, especially with today's volatile partisanship. I like Teresa Kerry and, as a very opinionated woman, I understand why she said, "shove it." However, I am not in the public eye and I get to say any damn thing I want to say. That is not true for politicians and their families. Dick made his FY comment on the Senate floor and looked heroic to some (asses) and like a jerk to other people. At this point, Dems need to keep to the high ground. I think she should have just ignored the RW agitator.

Not fair, it's true, but do we want to win or not?

I just saw ABC show this video and they were very fair. They noted the Trib Review is a conservative publication that Kerry campaign has said repeatedly misquoted Teresa.

And Journal.

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/opinion/... /

Here's how unbiased this ass is - read this from his journal.

Saturday's Boston weather dawned rainy and unseasonally cool -- fall-like. Oh, Democrats are in town.

Sunday, it was still cool with sun but with sometimes-threatening skies.

Kind of like those Democrat programs that offer sun but, and as the Law of Unintended Consequences dictates, usually rain on just about everybody's parade.

State Rep. Michael Diven, who staved off an effort from the Democrat powers that be, in a World Exclusive (LOL), says the committeeman/woman system in Pennsylvania is DEAD, DEAD, DEAD. (Did I say "dead"?) And those behind this dinosaur system of political "bestowment"? "Paper tigers," Mr. Diven said, sporting a BoSox ballcap in the lobby of the Omni Parker House Hotel just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday. And here's another World Exclsive (LOL) -- Diven, a Democrat, says the Trib, "a right-wing Republican rag" to many Democrats, has been "more fair to me than the Post-Gazette." That would be the Toledo, Ohio, Post-Gazette, the socialist/Marxist/"progressive" publication that's been feeling out would-be buyers.

57. I just posted a comment on his blog...

about that ridiculous entry.

I also posted a response to his simple-minded post quoting a bartender complaining that the Dems wouldn't increase business because they are getting free drinks at parties. His comment was something like, "Yes, those Democrats sure know how to treat the working class." I pointed out that the Republicans *would* be more likely to spend more money on booze (and hookers) based on the (in the public record) marital histories of a great number of prominent Republicans (and their mouthpieces).

Who the heck is Colin Mc-Whatever, anyway? Does anyone in Pittsburg actually pay attention to him?

59. Yes, I just saw a replay of it on CNN.
She told a conservative reporter to "shove it" because that person claimed Teresa said something that she didn't say and she was really pissed of about it. After she said it she turned around and walked away putting as much distance as she could between her and the reporter.

I expect the media will blow this out of proportion like they do everything else.

Bill Franken of CNN said the incident was "Cheney lite" which is so not true. Cheney said "fuck you" on the Senate floor to Patrick Leahy and I don't happen to think that there is any comparison.

You probably remember when Uncurious George called Adam Clymer of the NY Times an "asshole" but he was just letting off steam.

Yeah, sure.

It's from AP and so short that I included the whole thing -- a mere brief.

'Shove It,' Heinz Kerry Says to Journalist

Associated Press
Monday, July 26, 2004; Page A22

BOSTON, July 25 -- Teresa Heinz Kerry urged home-state delegates to the Democratic National Convention to restore a more civil tone to politics, then minutes later told a journalist to "shove it."

"We need to turn back some of the creeping, un-Pennsylvanian and sometimes un-American traits that are coming into some of our politics," the wife of Democratic candidate Sen. John F. Kerry (Mass.) told fellow Pennsylvanians on Sunday night at a Massachusetts Statehouse reception.

Minutes later, Colin McNickle, editorial page editor of the conservative Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, questioned her on what she meant by the term "un-American," according to a tape of the encounter recorded by Pittsburgh station WTAE-TV.

Heinz Kerry said, "I didn't say that" several times to McNickle. She turned to confer with Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and others.

When she faced McNickle again a short time later, he continued to question her, and she replied, "You said something I didn't say. Now shove it."

66. Teresa laid the smackdown on that bullshit propaganda rag!
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 06:58 AM by RatTerrier
In this case, rightly so!

The PTR is an evil, self-serving RW rag owned by Richard Mellon Sciafe. They were prominent in the Clinton smear machine starting in the early 90s. Notorious for printing absolute lies. And I'm not exaggerating on this! Sciafe makes William Randolph Hearst look like William Paley in comparison!

If you've read "The Hunting Of The President", you may remember reading about them.

'Bout time somebody tells them off!

Incidentally, notice how AP slid in the last paragraph about Cheney and Leahy's exchange? Any simpleton (even a Republican) should know that it's all apples and oranges. Cheney is a very high-ranking official. And his choice of language is pretty extreme. The media has no problem printing "Shove it", but I don't remember them printing "Go fuck yourself". No comparison.

GO TERESA!!! :yourock:

67. Here's the PTR article
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/trib/news/s_205174.html

...Minutes later, Colin McNickle, the editorial page editor of the conservative Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, questioned her on exactly what she meant by the term "un-American," according to a tape of the encounter recorded by Pittsburgh television station WTAE.

McNickle said the encounter also was witnessed by reporters for the Baltimore Sun, The Patriot-News of Harrisburg and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Heinz Kerry said "I didn't say that" several times to McNickle. She then turned to confer with Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and others. When she faced McNickle again a short time later, he continued to question her, and she replied, "You said something I didn't say. Now shove it."

The Pennsylvania delegation was the first to be visited by the wife of presumptive Democratic nominee John Kerry. Before her encounter with McNickle, she criticized the tenor of modern political campaigns, without being specific.

68. I certainly hope so....
... and while she was at, I hope she told said reporter to "park it to the left" and "rotate on it".

If she's really good, I hope she said "put it where the moon don't shine" and "use a red hot poker".

Really, 95% of the "reporters" in this country are useless at best and treacherous liars at worst. Somebody needs to tell them to just shut the fuck up.

76. "She's got more class than that?" Are you saying she's out of line?
She is most surely, perfectly appropriate, considering the circumstances.

I wouldn't go to the freeper site and tell them their bogus first lady sucks.

Teresa Heinz Kerry is a terrific person, and I'm not going to let the moment pass without saying I think your post is dishonest.

Don't try to run her down here, while pretending to be concerned. That's simply stupid, and clumsy, to say the least. Try to have a little finesse next time when you think you'll put one over on someone.

80. One of the things I dislike about politics in this country
is the fact that the spouse gets involved at all. Why should their manner, their style, their appearance, or their opinion matter at all? Why should we also elect the candidate's wife (or husband) and children along with the candidate? It seems to be one of those traditional American things, like the balloons at the convention, the kissing of babies, the petting of the dog, the fondling of the cat, the things that have always disgusted me about American politics. I would prefer that each candidate have 1 hour of simultaneous, universal TV time on all networks to do with as they please and explain their platforms, appealing solely to our intellect and not to our emotions. Leave the wives (or husbands) out of it. Leave the theatrics and the goody-two-shoes family image out of it.
