Did Kerry get booed at the game yesterday? |
|
As someone had mention during the Cheney Booing, baseball fans will boo politicians regardless of which side they're on. But I didn't hear anyone mention booing on CNN yesterday, but in 10 minutes time, two 'newsmen' on Fox brought up that half the stadium booed.

1. Not half the stadium-it was mostly cheers |
|
my brother-in-law was at the game and all the people around him cheered heartily. He said he heard some boos, but what do you expect? Red Sox seasons tix are the most expensive in baseball and are held by lots of Repuke corporations.

It's hard to hear much beyond your section when people are cheering or booing.
The sound was down for the broadcast but I heard boos and cheers mixed. I couldn't say what percentage but it was mixed.
But really who cares? These were baseball fans who were more interested in Sox vs. Yankees at that time than Kerry vs Bush.

and this isnt surprising. As a member of SOSH (sonsofsamhorn.com), I can attest to the fact that there are quite a few rabid wingnut sox fans. Boston may have a majority of Dems, but there is a very vocal minority of wingnuts here.

and some people boo, that's pretty clear. It happened. It's no big deal. It should be expected and ignored because it is a non-story.

10. Kerry's "First Pitch" didn't reach the plate. |

That was the reason. It was very good natured.
I'd like to see gutless Shrub attempt something like that.

Actually, he has. At a Yankees game, I think. Threw a decent pitch too. Come to think of it, maybe I'll have to re-evaluate my vote. Don't want to ignore the important things.

...at a Yankees game was shortly after 9-11, when the country actually thought he was going to do something to avenge the deaths of 3,000 people.
But would he venture to step up to the mound today and try the old first pitch thing?
Karl Rove would probably tell him not to do it. Too uncontrolled an environment.

there will be some booing. That isn't really anything big. I agree that in MA, as well as other New England States, the vast majority of people are Democrats but the RW nuts, because they are fewer, learn to boo and hiss loud and obnoxiously so people can be sure to hear them. Hehehhee.

Whether Kerry threw a 59 footer or the catcher/veteran was too far behind the plate, the ball bounced at the plate and that's what created a crowd reaction.
If you've ever been out to a ballgame, the opening pitch is always a joke...and when that pitch is botched it's always hooted, laughed at and booed. You could hear lots of cheers for Kerry as he went to the mound, and the only boos were after the ball bounced...but, of course, the wingnut media read this differently.

7. Please, this is such non-news... |

If it were really news, then it would not be covered. Channel 5 in Bostin aired the footage but without sound twice this morning. Nice. They can say he was booed (which they didn't) and not give the sound. In looking at the fan reactions, it appeared to be a good reaction. On a side bar, I was at the Bette Midler concert this spring, and Bette was glowing about John Kerry and there was loud cheering and smatterings of boos.

9. And Cheney was booed at a yankees game... |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 09:28 AM by Kholst
so what? At least (from the audio I heard this morning on NPR) the cheers were louder than the boos for Kerry... not so for the VP, if memmory serves. http://www.nbc5.com/news/3477288/detail.html??z=dp&dpswid=1260382&dppid=65192When Cheney was booed, it was of course reported, even on NPR, as something of a ritual that fans greet all politicians with.

When they announced "On the eve of the Democratic National Convention..." the booing started. After the cut, the announcer said that many Bostonians were not pleased with the gridlock the Convention has brought to town.

OMG the desperate Freeps are reading a LOT into the scattered booing, and remembering how GWB got applauded in one of the first games after 9/11 well no SHIT.
That is what is so insulting, they have no problem crediting GWB with all the acheivements of the people of NYC in recovering from 9/11, and the wonder why he's 20+ points behind there.
Let's have GWB go to a ball game please! BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

There was a full chorus of boos and it was quite loud.
It's just that Bostonians are solidly against the Convention which is closing their city, forcing people to take vacation or sit in gridlock. People support the candidate, but don't want the convention to shut down Boston. It seems like 90% of Bostonians are solidly, rabidly against the convention, so JK got booed. The people booing were the people who can't go to work for the next four days, or will miss out on 4 days pay, etc, or will waste time in their cars so that the elite media/dems can have a private party.
Of course, all the posters here will blame the boos on some various "wingnuts" without any proof, or any idea of what's really going on. Also, for those who ask Bush to do the same, he actually pitched a strike from the mound. Kerry pitched from the grass in front of the mound, and his throw didn't even reach home.
By the way Red Sox nation is not some right wing fan club, and the crowd was jam packed with conventioneering Dems last night. It was a GREAT game too! GO SOX
Anyway, I fully support JK but just wanted to clear up anybody's efforts to spin the booing into something it was not.

27. What would ever make you think that the majority of |
|
people that go to Sox games are Bostonians?
I agree that there was a tremendous amount of whining about the convention spurred on by the media (and call me naive but for the life of me I can't imagine where Boston pride went) but I think attributing the booing to that is stretching it. There are Bush supporters in every state, MA is not immune. Do you think it was Kerry supporters booing?
Sorry, YOUR spin isn't working.
I believe that Kerry shouldn't have thrown out the first pitch unless he could throw a strike just because dimwits would compare his baseball prowess to Bush's. Absolutely no one can enjoy a light moment for what it is.
Of course, Kerry's game is hockey - it would be highly entertaining to see Bush on skates.:-), don't you think?

22. The tv clip had some boos, |
|
but you have to understand that sports fans get very impatient with anything that delays the game. A lot of them are hardcore fans--who just are not that interested in some of the little extra things done to dress up the ball game. They boo to get across the message--enough of this--get the game started!
It is not necessarily anything against Kerry.
(Oh and I heard some criticsm that the pitch fell short too--his own fault there--when someone can't throw a good pitch--the fans will boo them--that is just life--it is not personal or political though. I imagine this is a crowd that will vote for Kerry in a high percentage, in spite of the fact that he flubbed the pitch)

28. Yes, there were quite a few boos |
|
and quite a few cheers. I was at the game myself and I could hear the mixed reaction. I wonder how many of the boos were personally directed at Kerry, however, and how many were just pissed because his presence, and the Convention, has caused increased security and therefore added hassles.
