Barney Frank to run for the United States Senate? First I've heard of this |
|
I saw this on Eric Alterman's Altercation. Barney Frank in the United States Senate...yep, I agree with Eric. It would be quite fitting. :-)
Actual News, convention edition: At the party for George McGovern last night, I bumped into Barney Frank to follow up on my interest on whether he’s still planning to run for senate, which, as I noted months ago, would be an added bonus of a Kerry presidency. Barney recently experienced a violent tragedy in his extended family and I would not have been surprised if he decided he was not up to the fight. But I was wrong. Barney told me he would almost certainly run in a special election to fill Kerry’s seat unless the Democrats take back the House. His opponents would be Ed Markey and Marty Meehan. It would be a hellova race offering, in many ways, the best that liberalism has to offer. Here’s hoping….

1. Does that mean we can get Will Pitt to run for his Congressional seat? |

I want Tierney to run. Now this guy is a progressive and a great advocate for his constiuents. I'd quit my job to work on his campaign to get this guy into higher office.

7. I had to read that twice to make sure you didn't mean Rose Tierney |
|
former mayor of New Bedford, MA... She was as corrupt as the day is long, and personally oversaw the destruction of the downtown community. Her successor Fred Kalisz is as big an idiot as she was too.

one of the most entertaining and truthful democrats we have.Did you read his blog about using Cheney this or go Cheney yourself? He has balls the size of medicine balls.I especially liked when he described how the repubs in the House dance in lockstep unison on virtually every bill that comes down the pike-especially those that start at the 1600 end of the pike

6. He's maintained that it depends on the will of his constituency |
|
if they want him to run, he'll run, otherwise he is happy to serve as congressperson. FWIW I hope he runs. I'd love to see him squish a bunch of the senate rethugs.

Everyone knows he's gay. The Democrats would then have to spotlight....Rep. Mark Foley. Rep. David Drier. Senator Lindsey Graham.
any more? anyone?
I don't think they will go there with Barney.

14. Frank's district is somewhat blue collar, right? |
|
And yet...they've known he's gay for a long time now.
A good representative is just that. And Barney Frank is considered one of the best in Congress. I don't think the gay issue would be much of a factor. IMO.
