Freepers stole out IRC channel #Democrats on Undernet
A few other DUers and I had established (but not registered) this channel on IRC (internet relay chat)..i guess they took it over while it was unnocupied. Now it is "invite only and secret. you can't find out who is squating there OR any other info about the channel. They also took over one of my personal channels that I shared with my family. I knew I should have set up the home computer to keep an eye on it while i was away.

Man, someone has got a lot of time on their hands!

1. Well, the ORIGINAL Nazis also had a lot of time on their hands
Luckily, tehse "kinder and gentler" Nazis are still practicing most of their thuggery in cyberspace.

Just wait, though, nazis are Nazis in the end...

2. Registering on Undernet is a pain in the arse
but it's worthwhile to get that X bot. There are also some good pol channels on Undernet, although I'd avoid #politics like the plague unless I were a dittoing bobblehead, which I'm not.

The best way to register a non right wing channel is to keep it secret and by invite, or it will be freeped. Morons with no lives and plenty of time on their hands feel freeping a channel gives them some sort of victory.

Good luck on getting it back and getting it registered.

4. There's also #political_forum
#news_garden and #newsgarden. There may be others, but I haven't managed to turn them up yet.

5. Do people still use IRC?
I mean, I know some still do for #warez and such. I think I've fired it up once or twice in the past 8 years, and before that I only used it to play "Acro". Damn that was a fun game, I miss it. It was a bot driven game that dealt acronyms every few minutes, you created an acronym and submitted it for vote. The one with the most votes wins a point for each vote and a bonus. First to 30 points wins the game.

My best acronym (it was in the acro hall of fame back in the old days): EFHWS - "Elmer Fudd has wascally sex" :)

It seems like blogs and forums have kind of made IRC obsolete.

7. IRC is still going strong
blogs and forums aren't a substitute b/c they arent in real time and everything is posted on the internet for the world to see. IRC is great for getting computer help (for macs) and it sure beats those bulky idiot proof applications that yahoo, aol and others put out for instant messaging.

8. right, and mIRC and PIRCH are just hard enough to cope with
to act as twit filters, so you don't get the same level of dumbassery you do from ISP chat rooms.

6. We had an AIM room, that was invite only, and apparently, a while back
some freeps ended up invited, and now I guess there is a new room.. I haven't been there in ages though..

Get a new one and call it something boring, like geology chat or something that does not give it away with a search.. make it invite only and maybe password protected if you can.. or just create a new AIM chat every time you want to chat :)
