Poll question: If you were running the convention
How much time would you spend on criticizing President Bush and his administration (such as it is)?

My personal opinion is that we have two goals for the convention
1. Putting forth the failures of the Bush Adminsitration
2. Presenting our positive vision of what America could be.

And I think we have done more to sell America on how bad President Bush is, so i'm gratified to see us focusing on putting forward our program. But obviously there are those who might disagree.

1. It should be lightly touched upon in an overall pro-kerry message.
They should hint at it, and use innuendo, but keep everything very positive, that is how you win.

4. I agree.
Undecided voters tend to get very turned off by very negative campaigning.

2. There needs to be a compare and contrast to show a difference
But not so much that it turns into a "bash", I'd say 10% is a good amount.

3. I'd say 1/3 of the time pointing out how the BCE has ruined this country..
...in just 3.5 years, and then 2/3 of the time pointing out how it can be fixed.

5. This is a case where I'm a Centrist
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 02:17 PM by 56kid
so I say 30-49% of the time. That's a centrist position right?
It's just slightly away from the middle of the curve and not extremist like all those people who are voting 1-15%.

8. In context anyting over 20% is probably extreme.
Focusing the dem convention on the republican candidate would be pretty extreme.

6. Need one good soundbite...

Something like Richards' "Poor George. He can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth." Just something that sticks in your head no matter who you are.

Beyond that, criticize him only with a subtle approach that focuses on the strength of the Democratic position.

11. I would destroy Bush! This election is all about stoping this outrageous
Administration - and EVERYONE knows it - so why pretend otherwise? Contriving a behaviour only gets you into trouble - like it did for Gore when he tried so hard to temper and alter his tone in the debates against doofus. Like or not, the fact is, hating the Busheviks and all the bad they have done is going to be a far more powerful motivation for people to vote than loving Kerry!

12. That just plays into Bush's hands.
We need to destroy the image that Kerry is a flip flopper who is doing nothing but bashing Bush. You would rather we adopt that image. That would be a disasterous choice in this election.

ABB people are voting for Kerry anyway, he doesnt have to woo them. He needs to woo people who might be tempted to vote for Bush. They want to hear a positive message and they want to be convinced that Kerry is a good choice for the office.
