I am tired of the "Stepford First Lady" syndrome that the media seems |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 03:48 PM by MrsGrumpy
to be perpetuating ad nauseum these days.
Without even bringing Sen. Clinton into it, we have seen it reach a screaming pitch as of late.
Judy Dean, criticized as a detraction from her husband's campaign because she dared to continue on with her job as a doctor, helping people. That used to be a noble profession.
Teresa Heinz-Kerry, derided ridiculously, subjected to odd polls all because she told a journalist to "shove it"...not to "fuck off", but shove it. And this only after he had hounded her relentlessly...
And I sit in wait for the fashionista politicos to rant about Elizabeth being too dumpy, too short, not trophy wife-ish enough for the job. Remember Tipper??
I am trying to raise a confident, self assured teen aged daughter. She's interested in politics. We were going to enjoy watching the events unfold today. What she got instead was a twisted message that "good wives" keep their mouths shut, and present a plasticized version of themselves to the public. All this to be an asset??? Come on.
I hail Teresa Kerry-Heinz for putting that idiot in his place. I hail Judy Dean for showing my daughter she can keep her career. I hail Elizabeth Edwards for so far representing everywoman...and...
....I sort of feel sorry for Laura Bush. Okay, I won't go that far, but I do wonder what she was like before political fakery descended.

2. James Carville just put it thusly, re Teresa: |
|
"She told that reporter to shove it. Shove it? What will we tell the children!!? What a terrible thing! You know, I don't like her, she's a woman who thinks for herself!! Bob, I know how much that infuriates you and your right-wing friends."
Carville nails it, and we have to call them on it every single time.
