Just how schitzo is the United States of America?
Some things occurred to me on the drive home:

1. We are the most militarily powerful country in the world right now, agreed?

2. We are the most fearful.

Does that make any sense? My God, people here fear gay people GETTING MARRIED. What a crazy thing to be afraid of. We jump at our own shadows (and by "we", I don't necessarily mean all Americans, just as a whole).

We must look coo-koo for Coco Puffs to the outside world, right?

So here are the questions:

Did we become the most militarily powerful country BECAUSE of our fearfulness?

Or are we fearful because that's what a big ol' military defense complex will do to a people? (Anyone remember Eisenhower leaving office and warning against this kind of thing?)

Another thing I realized. I know exactly why I don't fit in here. I am not afraid one bit of people who love each other getting married. I am not afraid one bit of Muslims, etc. The chance of me being in a terrorist attack is so small as to be laughable. That's right, laughable.

But I am afraid of my own country. I am afraid of what we do to other countries, all in the name of "good".

(And just as a side note, why is no one talking about the actual reasons 9/11 was carried out? You know, the helping Israel and the bases in Saudi Arabia thing? It's a total cop out to say they hate us for our freedoms. They do not.)

Anywho.
