Ok...don't jump on me, but this guy is unnecessary. He isn't smooth, he isn't fluent, and while John Kerry is looking good through this speech, the Rev. says "I did not come to glorify him..." but that is excatly what he is doing. I just think it is a bit obsessive. The choir already knows Kerry is a brave soldier, who didn't take daddy's leave and join the air national guard, but...don't you think this time could be better used by giving Clinton a longer block?

He's speaking (IMO, of course) to the millions of moderates and undecides who have already had their email boxes inundated with crap from the Scaife-like Swift Boat Vet crew. This guy actually served with Kerry. Hopefully, it will put that other group's garbage to rest.
Rest assured, TBD will speak his piece, regardless of the amount of time he gets.

3. I respectfully disagree, Loreths... |

...the Rev. Alston is giving an injection of emotion...it may not be part of my culture, but it reaches others deep down...this is one of the most effective speeches by a "non-name"I have ever seen...too bad only PBS and ABC are carrying it.

I respect all of your disagreements...but, he is preaching the choir. The people who believe that Kerry isn't the man that all of these guys are saying won't believe this Rev, wont believe anyone who tells us the story because the story has been told over...and over...and over again. I believe Kerry, I believe all of his swiftmates, but...overdilution will lessen the impact.

17. There are a lot of undecided voters who respect soldiers |

It needs to be said over and over again that John Kerry is a man who served this country as a soldier with courage, honor and distinction.

This is not for the choir, btw, it is for those who want to know more about Kerry - people that could be tunning in..

and he is preaching well right now. I guarantee that he is speaking to many many people right now. It may not appeal to you but it is definitely doing good for the Kerry campaign.

However, I have a degree in political communication, worked on Senatorial campaigns and in media corps of Senators...I have experience in public speaking, and I know that the people who benefit from the Rev's speech are the people who are already voting for Kerry. The swing votes will be gotten by Mrs. Clinton and the best post war President...that is the impact the DNC should have gone for. I'm not saying the Rev's speech wasn't good, I'm just saying the picture should be painted in a different light.

and I'm a cynical bastard about such things. There is such a thing as being too smooth, too fluent, too practiced, too prepared; this guy put a lot of fire into his words, and it came off as real, not just some phoney speech, as Hilary is now giving.
