Was Clinton bringing up the AWB a good idea? |
|
He had an awesome speech. I was cheering and feeling great, and then he started talking about the damned AWB. It felt like I got kicked in the nuts.
What do you think? Was this a good thing to do on a national stage?

A criminal will think twice if they have reason to believe somebody has an Ak-47 under their trench coat.

30. If we're going to let citizens be armed to kill in a serious way ... |
|
... let's do it right. I want plutonium powder. Right now it's illegal for any citizen to possess plutonium because it is the most poisonous substance on earth, but it's no more poisonous than a bullet fired point blank by a law-abiding citizen into a criminal's head.
Let's say that I pull into a grocery store parking lot and some guy comes to my car and starts bothering me, wanting some money to go somewhere. I tell him no, but he persists, and I think he wants to rob me. I warn him to back off. He doesn't back off. I warn him again. He get's testy and starts pushing, so I take my little squeeze bottle of plutonium and give him a little tiny puff of plutonium powder in his face. The guy sneezes about 3 times and curses at me while I walk into the grocery store. When I get back to my car I see that he has vomited next to my car and has gone away. Two days later the guy is dead.
I'm sure that you'll support this idea because you're in favor of citizens being able to kill criminals if it's necessary to do so. The means of death doesn't matter to you. The fact that the criminal can be killed is what matters to you.
An AK-47 is a pussy weapon compared to a little squeeze bottle of plutonium powder. Don't you agree?

A lot of people don't know about it. I thought it was great at pointing out:
They: want to put assault weapons back on the street and take police officers off the street
We: want to keep assault weapons off the street and put police officers on the street.
Very succinct and a great point.

Because of the way he did it, he made Dems look good on it, and Republicans look incredibly cheap and bad.

13. I thought he framed it very well |
|
He coupled the expiration of the assault weapons ban with the lack of funding for more municipal firefighters and police officers. He drew a very nice parallel between the Republicans' failure to fund the first responders with their failure to extend the assault weapons ban, and I'm sure there are a lot of people who would prefer to let the police protect them than have to go out and buy their own assault rifle to guard their property. I know I would.
He also made the very good point that crime statistics, which had been decreasing throughout his presidency were now again on the rise. Odd what some people will do when they no longer can go to work at a decent wage or don't have any hope for the future, isn't it?

of policeman losing their jobs, and our at risk kids losing the funding that keeps them off the streets. It was very well done in my opinion.
