What's up with Jesse Jackson NOT APPLAUDING Gore & Clinton? |
|
When C-Span showed Jesse Jackson in the audience at the end of both speeches, he was standing there with his hands clasped across his stomach while the crowd was cheering wildly.
What's up with that?!

He was at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar when Chelsea studied there. Klaus was also a soccer star at Washington University More here: http://www.andover.edu/publications/alumni_profiles/klaus_i_spr_01.htm

15. I think the comment was |
|
directed to the FACT that Clinton has no more loyal and decent of a friend than Jesse. It's not necessary for Jesse to act like a 15-year old girl at a Beatle concert in 1964. There is absolutely no problem with Rev. Jesse and his good friends at the convention. Thus, the comment was a gentle hint that you would benefit from investing your energy in something more serious.

20. Truly. I've never heard of the APPLAUSE POLICE! |
|
The clap cop is breathing down people's necks he feels aren't pulling their weight. He probably has no idea what he's talking about.
Jesse Jackson is a close friend of the Clintons, has been for years. He doesn't have to perform for anyone. Besides, how does our clap cop know he hadn't been clapping his hands until they bled earlier?
Pathetic. It really takes all kinds.

I watched a rerun of Carter's speech on CSPAN today and the camera flashed on Jesse Jackson after his speech as well, and he wasn't clapping or smiling, and they are good friends from way back.
That said, Jesse Jackson was grinning ear to ear and clapping for Obama Barak tonight. I think it is just timing of the camera shots more than anything.

I believe he was standing up and if you saw his face, he looked like he was amazed. Sometimes in the black church ministers just stand and don't clap. I wouldn't take it too seriously.

How odd that you are choosing to focus on this. Maybe he was thinking about the message or taking in the moment. Good lord, the clap police, as if DU wasn't recently acting like the left version of FR as it is.
Is there some valid reason to pick appart all of our leaders?

I hope it means nothing. But it did look strange. Right from Madeline Albright, looking like a teenager at a rock concert (you go girl!) to Jesse with his hands crossed over his stomach...
Don't know.

21. it looked to me like he was seriously paying attention to the words |
|
sometimes even during speeches meant to arouse the audience some people seem to pay attention in a different way. like he was having some in depth thoughts about the things they were saying. he was carefully paying attention. if he was angry or anything he would have just sat there or put on a false act of being happy as he was with bush at the urban league speech.

24. BTW, the people who didn't actually SEE it should shut up. |
|
I saw it, and it wasn't just someone not applauding, it felt more like as if someone had come right into the the middle of the proceedings with a big protest sign - he didn't appear anything other than extremely pissed to me, and while I'm not saying that there is some law that you should applaud or whatever, I'm not talking about during the speech, this came at the introduction - and it was conspicuous and felt ungracious to make what felt like such a deliberate point of not giving basic courteous respect to the former president.

and I didn't realize Jackson wasn't clapping at the intro., BEFORE Clinton even started speaking, so obviously, he was not "mesmerized" by his words.

Why the hell are you attacking Jesse Jackson? Wasn't it you who spent a whole rant on people who sat at their computers and complained about stupid shit rather than doing something useful?

Hey, probably not a good sport but honestly I think they over choreographed this thing and have put some of the true spirit of the party under wraps. While I agree it's the right strategy to rid this country of dumbo, it makes me a little sad that they do it at the expense of heros like Jesse who worked so hard for civil rights.

28. I have NEVER seen anything this stupid at D.U. |
|
You have NO IDEA what was going on there, what was going on around him, what duties he had during the proceedings, what he was also thinking about, etc., etc., etc.
I have seen HUNDREDS of slimes during my life who use bogus means to try to take a wild, vicious kick at someone they don't like, while pretending to do something else. I'll bet you can't even believe anyone would have been filthy enough to call someone Martin Luther Nigger just because they didn't like the thought he was someone who wouldn't suck up to them.
There's no need to speculate, to conjecture why the sky doesn't fall on Jesse because he didn't by god CLAP when you imagined he should.
I've seen a handful of people passing by DU who made absolute jackasses of themselves, lying, contriving, back stabbing, etc, etc. but this is not only all of the above, it's also profoundly STUPID.

31. IF You had bothered to READ my post |
|
I made an observation and asked a simple question:
"What's up with that?" I did not make any judgements or criticize Jackson.
I happen to like Jesse Jackson very much and VOTED for him during the 1988 Presidential Primaries in Massachusetts when everyone around me was voting for Dukakis.
To accuse me of "Lying", "Contriving" and "Back-Stabbing" is way over-the-top.
Don't you realize that there are enough people to hate in the world already without your working so hard to give us another?
