If we were not fighting over there, we would be fighting them over here... |
|
How many times have we heard that? Is it true? Where would we be fighting the terrorists over here? Would we still be letting them fly in unchecked? Would Homeland Security be doing anything to try and stop them? What cities do you think we would be fighting them in? I have heard this many times, mostly from Repubs, and I was just wondering how much truth is in it??

I get pissed off every time I hear it, because it sounds to me as if the wingers are quite comfortable using our soldiers as bait.

As in, an invasion? I don't think there's any truth in that.

We were not fighting any Iraqis other than by killing them with sanctions and bombing prior to invasion. We wouldn't be fighting any of them had we not invaded their country. Now the U.S.A has to fight everybody in Iraq and remains exposed at home.
Not a brilliant strategy.

|
What happened to the anthrax killer? Cheney, AshKKKroft and Ridge have all said another attack is "inevitable." Do you want leadership that throws up its hands in despair and puts assault weapons back on the market to HELP the next attack?
And while we're about it, we're not fighting them over there...we attacked a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 while we let Osama run free....

...and it's fucking racist. To believe this, you would have to believe that "those people" are "all alike," so it doesn't matter that had nothing to do with 9/11 and it never presented an imminent threat to America. Ignorant, stupid racism, swathed in patriotism and bullshit. I fucking hate this traitorous administration and anyone who supports them in any way.

11. It doesn't make any sense at all does it? |
|
But then you are trying to make sense of rw talking points and that's always a head-bloodying exercise, isn't it?
They say that if we weren't fighting the terrorists "over there", they'd be "over here". Um, does that mean Homeland Security is a sham?
That little argument has more holes than a brick of swiss. It's a very desperate rw talking point that, unfortunately, some of the less informed among us actually believe.

16. we are creating them over there by our presence in the Middle East |
|
and the longer we are dependent on foreign oil we will be creating more and more of them. One question that the US, arrogant as it is, forgets to ask itself is Why do so many people hate us? Because we are chest thumping, selfish, arrogant, militaristic assholes thats why. Get off the OIL grid, USA. Until you do, you will always be the enemy to the Middle East. And stop attacking other countries pre emptively because you want to steal their oil, rather then come up with alternative ways of living and a different energy source. But complicated ideas dont sink into heads, Im afraid, that arent capable of thinking in a complex manner.

There would most likely BE no terrorism! And what really gets me about the whole thing, is that our military in doing this, is nothing more than a bodyguard for the corpratist interests that have turned out to have little in common with the people who live in THIS country.

18. Listening to local Colorado talk radio this morning - |
|
The host is friends with Tancredo. Tancredo has been saying that to his knowledge people of Middle Eastern origins have been coming across the borders of Mexico and Canada into the States in great numbers.
So, this theory of fighting them there is hooey. "They" are coming here, are here, were here. The question I ask is the one Randi Rhodes asked yesterday - How the hell did the hijackers get into flight school for huge jets when they didn't have licenses to fly small planes. It's all fishy.
To find a source for your question, Kentuck - Maybe when the administration thaws out Osama in October, they can ask him.

"At least he has kept the war over there and not over here". Same thing. I haven't figured out how to convince them it pure BS. But it is.
It is my opinion that the terrorist threat is no greater than it used to be (befor 9-11). It's just that we are more aware of it. Terrorists HAVE struck here before. Sept. 11 was just the biggest. The current administration was able to use that to perpetuate crippling fear of all manner of vile things related to terrorists. I wonder if those countries that have historically had to deal with these events have gone as nuts as we have?

i realize this is a rhetorical post to stimulate discussion; you've purposely left your views obscured to avoid "debate" counter posts. very adroit, i need to emulate your style. my threads are too positional; hence, provocative.
this is a total bullshit 'pube talking point. we are wasting vital resources that cd be here guarding against terrorism. also, we aren't fighting "them" over there; we're stealing oil. "them" are islamic/fundamentalist terror org's, not the iraqi people. the occupation troops cd be split between airport security/border patrol ops, & overseas hunting teams, ferreting out where the real terrorists are hiding.
this administration doesn't give a rat's ass about the safety of their serfs. they're all about gobbling up world resources to bolster their positions & power.
