Kerry's NASA Pic will get more play today than the speeches
Edited on Tue Jul-27-04 09:05 AM by JCMach1

Why?

I think we know the answer to that...

Already featured on CNN this morning... heavily

Even worse 'our friend' Bill Hemmer stated he 'looked like a condom'

A rhetoric that ties in sex, aids, disease... you get the picture...

I hate CNN more every day...

9. You see, he looks goofy and unPresidential...
unlike Smirkaholic walking around with scabs on his face and picking his nose and slurring his words. See, those are the Presidential qualifications these days.

15. they are attacking people who put that on everyday in their work
the people of science and math who help make this a great nation. the right wing is attacking them when they attack kerry for putting on what they wear everyday (for safety reasons).

unlike the republicans, kerry cares about these things which make our country great and wants to check things out for himself and help them continue their work as president anyway he can.

Meet Gilles Duceppe, leader of the Bloc Quebecois. His campaign in the 1997 Canadian Federal Election was badly stalled after this photo was taken.

8. it's a nice picture
it would be good for democrats to say how important science is and that many good people who help make this country a great nation through things like our space program everyday go out there and work like this. and that kerry cares about them and has policies which will help them and help students today learn about it.

13. Yep, they are opening the door for a more positive message
which can again slam Bush without directly slamming Bush.

We all know that stated policy is driving science with these bastards rather than scientific discoveries driving how we should move forward.

10. "The 'bunny suit' is required"
"The "bunny suits" are required dress for anyone coming in close proximity to Discovery, currently being prepared for flight on the next Space Shuttle mission."

http://www.floridatoday.com/news/space/stories/2004b/spacestoryN0727KERRYSPACE.htm

The "bunny suits" are required dress for anyone coming in close proximity to Discovery, currently being prepared for flight on the next Space Shuttle mission. The tour followed a public meeting Kerry held at the Dr. Kurt H. Debus Conference Facility at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

16. Someone explain to me why this is a bad photo op?
Kerry's record on supporting new technology and the space program is unassailable. Other than looking a little goofy in a clean-room suit, this is about as far as you can get from being a "Dukakis moment."

The problem with Dukakis is not that he was wearing an oversized helmet, but that the image of him driving a tank was at odds with the perception of him being weak on defense.

I don't think Kerry is weak on technology or NASA. Thus, I don't get the comparison.

I also don't see the Republicans turning this footage into a campaign ad. What can they say about this?

"John Kerry doesn't look good in light blue. Don't we need a President who does?"

This is a non-story. It speaks volumes about CNN that they're desperately pushing this so hard.

18. Its all good
Kerry is honestly not the most photogenic guy in the world. People need to get over it a little. This juvenile stuff only makes the mainstream media look more like the tabloids they have become.

It's not his color, that's for sure.

And, they can run the footage of Kerry confronting the Bush crowd on Sunday because of the contrast with Bush and how he would handle or not handle similar situations. I didn't see much pick up of Kerry's line to them, which was totally on the mark and proves that he can deliver a sound bite (they just won't repeat them) "4 More Years of What?!"

So they have run something they think will be negative....it is their job afterall ;-)

21. problem is, and it's a big one, is that this is VISUAL
and there are lots of pics

this scares me, precisely cause it's so visual.'

pugs are very very good at seizing on this

they really got it down during Reagan

Lesley Stahl attested to the power of the image in On Bended Knee, when she said it didn't matter when they ran a very negative story on RR, as long as the video feed showed him LOOKING PRESIDENTIAL, which Deaver and his flacks always made sure happened

the opposit is going to happen here, I'm very much afraid

that being the case, the DEMS need to pull out the THOUSANDS of pix of the chimp, in which he looks like the halfwit he is

but they WON'T!!!!!

Oh my god, he looks goofy. I'd never look goofy, especially if I had an opportunityto LEARN something. The pay-off just isn't worth it!! Look goofy... learn about space... nah, I'll stay stupid.

Great choice. :eyes:

22. I understand the need for the suit
but IMHO the Kerry campaign needs to think these things through better. They need to avoid having the candidate dress up in anything that might send the Repugs and comedians giggling.

I doubt if this photo will do much damage, but then who knows. It pains me that this is the level that politics have sunk too under the Repugs, but again the Kerry camp have to realize this and avoid these moments.

I wish they hadn't scheduled this dress up moment!

23. Who took the picture?
Was it a pool phtographer? Was he dressed up? Or was it the campaign's own picture? If it is our own, it was doubly dumb.

Let's face it, it does look undignified. One of the attacks against Kerry is that he is a phony, and putting on a costume to look like you are interested in space (even if true) looks phony.
