3. What are you talking about?
That ABC/WaPo poll was done BEFORE the convention. I assume that's what you're referring to.

6. be happy about bush being ahead in the polls, it keeps Rove happy
and therefore keeps Rove from making up lies to boost the boy kings ratings.

10. Having Kerry as the "underdog" isn't a bad thing
Still, the vast majority of polls show Kerry ahead slightly.

7. Kerry is still comfortably placed in the Electoral College.
He could very easily pull over 300 in the Electoral College, which would give him an easy victory.

8. considering the DNC has only been going on for about 22 hours
I don't think there's been time for any reliable polls to have been taken ... I don't think we'll see any meaningful results until around Monday or Tuesday of next week

11. By posting last week's polls which show bush pulling ahead (???)
the mediawhores might be playing to the sheep mentality of the pied pipers... you know that kind of mentality that jumps ship if the ship is sinking, or goes along without giving serious thought to the issues--the sort of mentality that runs on emotional buttons rather than carefully thought out positions.

13. The dell net home page which links to MSNBC says Bush is ahead,
but it may be the same ABC/WaPo poll that you are referring to. I didn't click on the link. :-)

15. Why does anyone pay attention to these polls????
Gore carried the favorite vote 2000. Does anyone think that if a question was posed to those same Gore voters, are you sorry you voted for Gore in 2000 and if asked of the Bush supporters, are you sorry you voted for Gore in 2000 which groups of voters would be sorry????

I was called yesterday by some group wanting to know my feelings towards the Republican Party and this election. I said, I thought the Republican's were extinct because all I have been hearing from are the Neocon war profiteer's a group I was strongly against.

14. About the "bump" (long post) ....
Edited on Tue Jul-27-04 01:36 PM by annxburns
The republicans know if Kerry gets a significant bump in the polls (>10%) then it may be all over. SO the repukes, including their slime machine (Murdoch's rags, Drudge and then over to Fox and the corporate media) are going to do everything possible to stop it. The media is ALSO going to try and limit Kerry's bounce. Remember what Bill said last night? "We don't need a divided America, they do." This is true of the media also. The last thing they would want to see is Kerry run away with it.

The bounce from the convention will be small to none. Those are the facts. For instance, the rasmussen tracking poll shows the barest uptick for Kerry after last night http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Presidential_Tracking_Poll.htm
although only a small number of respondents saw Clinton's speech.

How can Kerry get his message out clearly with so much sniping and firing from the shore? He can't. He just has to ride it out and keep fighting upstream. Expect no more than 3-5%, if that. And if the repuke slime machine hits on a big flap (THK flap and the picture are just little crap), Kerry's poll numbers may actually go down.

But DON'T GET WORRIED. First, the poll numbers are not accurately reflecting new voters and how charged up the dems are. Second, events on the ground will determine this election, not the media. If the economy improves and Iraq stabilizes, then Bush will probably be re-elected (puke). But, unfortunately for our country, I think Bush's policies are so wrong headed and damaging that they will push Iraq and the economy the wrong way. We also don't know what news story will dominate the coverage in Oct. And the debates will be VERY important.

I get freaked out by the RW corporate media too. But we will elect the next President in winter, not in the middle of summer, and it comforts me to realize that ....

16. The stock market also went up 200 points before the 2000 election
...then promptly crashed right after Bush was the "sure" winner.

I question anything that increases Bush's numbers.
