I'm confused about Joe Scarborough...
I know he's all winger, but 3 things have thrown me lately.

First, his commentary during the Democratic primaries was terrific. No BS, no ideology, nothing...

Next, his comment last night about Kerry...

Then I find this:

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5389875/

Today, President Bush took a shot at John Edwards, suggesting the U.S. senator was ill-prepared to be vice president of the United States.

The attack was a cheap shot: John Edwards has served the same amount of time in the Senate as George W. Bush served as governor of Texas when he was elected president. The Texas legislature only meets every other year and the governorship of the Lone Star State has long been considered one of the weakest positions of its kind in America. Add to it that Edwards has sat on the intelligence committee through the days before and after September 11th. You could argue that Edwards has more experience in key areas than George W. Bush did when he ran in 2000.

<more>

This could just be his way of pretending to be fair (a la O'Reilly), but it really doesn't seem that way...

4. No, he's more like Chris Mathews than like O'Reilly.
He's arrogantly fond of his own opinions, and those opinions tend to be strongly conservative; but he's honest and says what he really thinks. That means that he's frequently going to break with the neocon party line. He's not a propagandist like O'Reailly, IMO.

I thought it was characteristic of him to repeat his disgust over The Clinton Chronicles and then try to compare it to Fahrenheit 911. The Clinton Chronicles was just a bunch of lies strung end-to-end. The worst thing you can say about F911 is that there is some speculation in it that is not fully supported by the facts - but the facts presented are valid, and the speculation is honest speculation presented as such.

So there's some intelligence and honesty there (meaning Scarborough), but there's also a strong conservative filter.

right-wingers talk of Clinton supposedly murdering a long list of people?

15. A Strangely Selective Filter
How does his line last night about "he'd sleep well with Kerry as President" wash. I didn't believe when I saw someone post that and then heard it for myself on a rerun. Ron Reagan had him literally worn down last night.

Of the wingnut shills, Scarborough, as you note is more likely to leave the plantation before the others, but he always come running back home.

IMHO, he's sorta torn as to what he wants to be when he grows up. I'm certain he still has political ambitions and was restless in the House...where I remember him with the cocky-ass attitude he was smarter than the rest...even fellow Repugnicans. Then there's the TV star Joey...intoxicated with the perks and power of video treehouse punditry. He gets to meet the movie stars, always invited to the parties and a BMOC. Now the fun will be how Joey breaks as his party goes down in flames. Will he jump go down with the ship or the shark...maybe he has already???

he has been making an effort to balance out his views. Maybe he sees the handwriting on the wall and a Democratic Attorney General will be coming to office and there is that issue of the dead intern....

8. Scarborough is more of a nut than conservative or liberal...
Having watched Joe Scarborough on his show and on others, I am convinced that he is a little crazy. Also, I think that Scarborough's rather "balanced" comments about Kerry and Edwards accurately reflect the view of many Republicans that want Bush defeated but cannot say so. The ONLY Republicans that really want to see Bush and Cheney in there again are the wingnuts. Most mainstream partisan Republicans recognize that Bush's policies, if allowed to continue unabated, could eventually result in a massive backlash that will put the GOP out of power for the next 50-100 years. No true partisan Republican wants to see that happen, but it will, if Bush continues to push his agenda without opposition, as he has done for the past 3+years!

9. Just like Tweety, ratings boost for a week or two....
Same BS different day. After bashing Dems and Liberal for daily for weeks on end they throw in a jab or two at Bush and Repukes. This little maneuver gets Libs to tune in for a week or so to see if they suddenly got balls and REALLY became Fair and Balanced.

Scarborough is WORSE than Tweety when it comes to Liberal bashing. This is nothing more than a ruse. Personally I can't stand to watch Dead Intern Guy...

10. Oh his own show, he's awful
but when he's on a panel, for some reason, he can be thoughtful. I think they tell him to be cartoonish for his own show and to play to the most base audience possible, especially because at the 10PM Eastern slot cable news lacks a meat and potatoes conservative.

I was honestly hoping his schtick with Reagan went well last night, but it didn't really...They did a post-convention show. I think Scarborough and Reagan in a Buchanan/Press, hannity/Colmes type show could work. But Reagan is too weak and Scarborough's attempts to be deferential made him look boring.

16. Repubs vs Neocons
Joe is not a Neocon. The reason actual Repubs have a hard time with the present Neo Fascist Junta is that most real Repubs are appalled with what is going on but they are challenged on how to opposed the Neo Fascists without sounding like traitors to the party. Most people cannot tell the diff. tween Neo Fascists and Repubs but there are real devides. Joe is hard to dislike because he has a personality that is friendly and he seems to be a fairly happy person. Make no mistake, he is a Repub. but not a nutcase.
