28. I get so discouraged with the Gephardt-bashing on DU
My friend worked for him in New Hampshire. Because she got to know him and felt that he had great ideas and a positive vision for our country, I took a good look at the man and really listened to what he had to say. I had to agree. He is roundly criticized on DU because he supported Bush* over IWR. But so did Kerry and Edwards. They were all lied to, as was the rest of Congress. They were told that Saddam had WMDs and was prepared to use them. They were told that Iraq was an "imminent threat," all lies. Bush* gave his word to Gephardt that war would only be used as a last resort, if diplomacy failed. He lied. He then launched an unprovoked attack without even waiting for U.N. approval. He lied to all of us, but Gephardt was hung out to dry because he was in the leadership position. I would have welcomed him as VP. He is from a swing state and gave up a 27 year career and the leadership position because he wanted the presidency that much. He deserves a cabinet position. I am thinking Labor, but Kerry may have a better idea. Kucinich was my first choice, but I would have supported Gephardt in a heartbeat. Watch this "Daily Show" clip and you may have a different view of Gephardt.

2. How do you follow the Reverend who calls Bush a cowboy?
How do you follow Ted Kennedy in BOSTON?!

Barack Obama will be on in a bit. Patience. :-)

12. It's kinda' sad --
you can hear them talking in the background, over the top of him. I feel bad for him -- he's so sincere, but he had a very tough act to follow.

29. I think he's a good speaker
his floor speech during the impeachment proceedings was amazing, as the Bush twins would say.

7. No, he isn't
I like what he is saying. Maybe one should read the words without a preconceived notion about the speaker.

Edited on Tue Jul-27-04 07:45 PM by gauguin57
... he IS a very good man. And he will be a good secretary of something-or-other.

The ending of his speech was very good. Got the troops stirred up.

11. Gep is doing just fine.
He has been given his marching orders and he's carrying them out. Workers. Working families. Unions.

These things still count. They may not be glamorous but they count.

It's his swan song. Let him have it.

For those of us who are cable challenged ... it's very frustrating to open a seemingly interesting thread only to find empty text.

Thanks !

16. Now admittedly, I'm not Gep's biggest fan, but he really SUCKS tonight.
recycling Junior's phrases of "uniter not divider" and "restoring honor and dignity to the White House"

What the Hell was he thinking?

Joe Sixpack's response to that? Yeah, we heard this crap before....

I could have sworn that's what she said. Maybe she just meant 'leader' in the generic sense.

Of course, he light years ahead of Bush, but after last night, he seems pretty flat. Would have been better earlier last night.
