Hubert Humphrey on CSPAN2
God, this man would've been sooo much better than Nixon. I understand why so many liberals were upset at him over his tentative Vietnam stand - similar to what Kerry faces over Iraq today. But I wish more had come together under him. It could've been something.

He's giving his 1968 acceptance speech.

1. I worshiped that man.
I was the vice-chair of the Humphrey for President Committee in my SIXTH GRADE CLASS. I remember that I made a poster modeled on the Tarryton cigarette ads -- I put a black eye on HHH's picture, and wrote, "Hubert Humphrey: I'd rather fight than switch!"

I hated the Vietnam War, but I loved HHH. His stand on civil rights LONG LONG LONG before anyone gave a crap is his lasting legacy.

They're good enough for me!! (sung to the tune of 'Gimme that old time Religion')

Young Democrats of Texas H-M rally in Tyler Texas, 1968. Yee Haw!
They shoudl have walked away with the election. I remember the election night atmosphere in our Headquarters in Nacogdoches, what a damned BUMMER!

3. Was privelaged to meet him when when I was 12...
We were on a family vacation in DC and my dad spotted him walking down the street. My dad went up and shook his hand and he spent about 5 minutes talking to us. Great man.
