So, what is Kerry's move?
Its been 2 great days so far, sure to only get better tonight with Edwards speaking. The tone has been subdued, positive, and effective.
Clinton gave a grand performance, Obama was a hit, and Teresa is starting to look alot less like a loose cannon and alot more like a potential hero and crusader for women.

So the stage is set. What is Kerry's move?

We can probably assume that John Edward's speech will be mostly positive, though a few sharp digs are probably expected as well. Does Kerry stay positive and play it safe? Moderate?

What if-- he gives the most destructive attack on Bush we've yet seen? I'm starting to wonder if he's going to pull the rug out from under all of us and really lay out a serious, dire, and devastating prosecutorial case for the defeat of George Bush and the neo-cons.

This could definately backfire, if he decides to go extremely negative, but I wonder if maybe this is the right oppurtunity to do so. Its been a great convention, people are excited and ready to listen, you can play it safe, or you can take a risk and potentially drive the stake through the heart of the opposition. What do you do?

1. It would have to be extremely careful
I mean if he goes too negative than the perceptions of our party and his campaign could plummet.

He'll look out of touch with his party.

And his acceptance speech is the one part of the convention that will be most watched; so for a lot of people what he says will be what we Democrats stand for in 2004.

I think it's too risky myself; he does need to make the contrast between our position and their position, but I think the bulk of his message needs to be positive.

2. He needs to lay out his administration in detail
"This is what I plan to do, and this is how I will do it."

No flowery blah-blah, no direct attacks on the Chimpster.
Just tell us why we should vote for you.

3. JK will attack... 5 seconds after the repuke fest in NYC ends...
and he won't stop. ever. That's sort of what he did to Weld.

Weld who?

That's my point.

4. I hope you're right. A positive introduction is crucial, but...
At some point he's going to have to just bury him. The situation is too serious to just dance around it and hope for the best.

5. Come out in the bunny suit, say 'go fuck yourselves', and walk off
I'd vote for him, and curiously the coverage would be exactly the same among the major media. :silly:

6. he just needs to be convincing about the message that's already out there
strong at home, respected abroad ... I think the voters who are weary of Bush but still wary of Kerry need to hear from him that he will be forceful in his defense of the country, in his pursuit of terrorists, but also wise and not inclined to send American troops into unnecessary wars abroad, into potential quagmires, and that he will work with our allies instead of against them ... a mention of his support for stem-cell research probably wouldn't hurt either
