The rate of Superfund site cleanups has fallen by half since the late 1999s—not coincidentally, right around when Bush took over—and funding for the Superfund program has dropped by 34 percent. Now it's American taxpayers, rather than big polluters, who are producing the money for the cleanups that do happen. This wasn't the way Superfund was supposed to work. The Sierra Club's new report documents toxic sites around the country that endanger citizens' health and calls for a return to the 'polluter-pays' principle. SEE THE REPORT

7. It's his most impressive work to date.

It came out a couple weeks ago. Robert is in his prime. I enjoy his public speaking, including on the cable talk shows. But writing is his strength. This book is a classic. And, while I think it is unfair to compare people to their parents, the strength of his father comes through.

I was proud today, when I over-heard my children playing with their friends. My 10-year old daughter told them: "I want to be like Robert Kennedy, Jr. when I grow up."

I have a number of RFK jr's pieces on the environment, 'junk science' etc. saved. He is a one of our very best writers!
His passion is very real, his intellect powerful.

4. I work near one and live near another.

The Shattuck site is being cleaned now, which is nice, considering its virtually in the middle of a residential area (albeit low-income, which is why it's taken this long).

The other site is the old Asarco smelting plant in North Denver, at the base of my district. I haven't seen much happen there in the 9 years I've been here.
