Why is Kerry constantly called cold and aloof?
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 11:33 AM by glarius
Am I the only one baffled by the constant reference to Kerry as being cold, aloof, "Patrician" (whatever that means), unapproachable...blah, blah, blah"? Everytime I see him on TV surrounded by people he is laughing, interacting, shaking hands. In other words he seems to be quite comfortable, relaxed and having a good time!.....They just showed him on CNN on his arrival in Boston. He was laughing and fooling around - placing a life preserver over someone's head etc....

1. I think it's because he's so tall
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 11:37 AM by rocknation
Besides, so what if he is? He's asking us to hire him to run the country, not to marry us!

5. I think it's just a label the right wingers have pinned on him like they
did on Gore....Every Republican talking head on TV repeats it over and over and so it becomes accepted as fact.....My point is that I don't think he comes across as aloof!

3. because the Press is lazy..
and once a Democrat is labeled a certain way by some hack like Drudge or Peggy Noonan, the rest of the rabble all fall in line. Never fails. I swear the only person out there in the "mainstream" media with any common sense is Jon Stewart. Through his satire and humor, he conveys more truth in 5 minutes than Fox News does in 24 hours.

12. He acts and looks like New England.
Every man in my family acted like Kerry, as it is how they were taught to act. He is much like George Bush the first in how he acts. Now am I really to fall in love with the frat boy who was a cheerleader? I am really not turned on by silly men.

13. Just a Pravda Point. Nothing more. A Pravda zPoint to be endlessly
repeated until it laundersd into "conventional wisdom".

It's just that simple. Totalitarianism is simple at it's heart, no matter how glossy, subtle, and complex the package it comes in.

14. Maybe because he spends a great deal of time thinking about
how to make the country better, rather than how he appears to others.

It may be difficult to be a shiny happy people when you are thinking about and actively working on legislation and the restoration of America.

16. "Al Gore is a liar."
"Al Gore is stiff and wooden."

It's the same shallow nonsense the corporate whores
serve up to a shrinking lowest-common denominator
audience.

19. The problem is the Demos do not counter the
Republican spin. Also, Al Gore did not turn on his own charm until after the election. If Al Gore was 'being Al Gore' he would easily have won. Many people who know Gore say he's a charming, likeable guy. The same also applies to Kerry. Though we do live in an age of personality, it is 'pretty cool' to see a leader who's kind of a character.
However the point remains that the Demos have to counter the spin!

22. You've pointed out the exact problem with trying to put Kerry....
...in that box. While the talking heads are spouting crap like "aloof", "cool", and "distant", Kerry can be plainly seen in the camera shots doing exactly what you described...shaking hands, joking around, and with a big smile on his face.

Their tactics appear to be backfiring.

25. Let them create an expectation...
...that Kerry will easily smash once the public gets to know him. One's think for sure, he's comfortable in his own skin. It seems even more so now that J.E. has joined him on the ticket.

28. If not Kerry then Dean

Kerry is too aloof, and standoffish

Dean is too emotional.

We can't win...and this is where the media mecca wants to keep the debate. Forget the issues, lets talk about clean suits and aloofness.

What schmucks.
