Will Moore give a speech at the Convention?
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 12:24 PM by oc2002
I think he should, if not. Its just plain SUPER stupid of the DNC to not do so.

I see Gore 2000 DNC all over again.

1. I'm not sure that's a good idea
I mean, he's said himself he's not a public speaker. Even great authors make lousy speakers, and many of them freely admit it.

Hey, he's intelligent, funny, progressive, and a great director. I don't care if he couldn't speak to an audience of two year-olds.

2. Bad mistake if he does.
As much as I would like to hear from him, the country has to leave this convention with ONE face and ONE name on their mind - John Kerry. If Moore speaks, the media will be all over him to the exclusion of Kerry/Edwards. That just can't be allowed to happen.

I would rather see Dean set up a debate between Moore/Dean and two others. I think that would be fun.

4. It's my understanding
he's a guest of the Black Caucus, not a guest of the DNC.

5. He's not a Democrat, as he frequently states in interviews.
Besides that, if he were to speak at the convention, Kerry and Edwards would spend the rest of the campaign answering questions about whether they agree with every specific detail of F 9/11.

And besides that, Moore would be ruined if the establishment glommed onto him. He's far more useful as an outsider and equal opportunity gadfly.

So what purpose would be served by having Moore speak at the convention?

8. That is easily rebuked ..
..as Moore speach is more entertainment value than actual positions.

14. Yes, but why spend an entire campaign rebuking something
that is only done for entertainment value? Why give the Republicans months of ammunition just so that Moore's fans (of whom I am one) can get their jollies for fifteen minutes?

Do you remember what happened when Moore appeared with Wesley Clark and called Bush a deserter? From then on, Clark couldn't talk about anything else for being asked to defend or deny Moore's remark. What Moore said was good overall--it revived the AWOL issue--but very damaging for Clark.

Multiply that by 100 and you'll get some idea of what would happen if Kerry & Edwards openly embraced Michael Moore.

18. So if Moore gives a speach on how Bush lied about WMD..
..that would paint Kerry as a nut?

Tell me why we want to vote for Kerry again?

23. It doesn't matter what kind of "speach" Moore gives.
The Republicans and their servants in the media will tie Kerry to their distortions of what Moore has said.

And if you don't want to vote for Kerry, then don't. I'm certainly not going to beg you.

6. Just goes to show that the DNC has the backbone of a ...
..Jellyfish.

I do not buy the 'oh. its going take too much attention...'

HELLO! Most networks are not even covering this convention.

Some are calling it BORING!

In a week most people will not even remember this event, Kerry would benefit by having great speakers or personalities interject interest in this convention.

They should also have Al Franken go at it too.

DNC = Does Not Compute.

24. Thank God both the Democrats and Moore have more sense than that
Earlier, on Free Republic, the freeps were gnashing their teeth over this. They SO want us to fuck up by taking the attention off Kerry and putting it on Moore. Too bad, we're not falling for it.

7. Moore has plenty of media opportunities for his message.
Most Democratic politicians and lawmakers do not have that opportunity as the media freezes them out most of the time.

10. the whole tone of the DNC so far has been to appeal
to people outside the Democratic base. Moore is a polarizing figure. The people who listen to Moore are already voting for Kerry. Better to get the rest of the electorate on board.

what is more important, making sure Moore gets an opportunity to speak or getting Bush out of the White House?

21. If they botch this election...
..DNC is history anyway.

They are playing this election so conservatively, like Gore in 2000 that is what is keeping this election so close.

Kerry is Bush-lite platform will fail.
