Will there even be a convention bounce?
Without network TV coverage, undecideds probably won't even see it. Some of my friends didn't even know it was going on. Sure it's on CSPAN, but if you watch CSPAN then you probably already are an informed viewer who has made their decision regarding the election. Who wants to bet the networks will find their sense of civic duty and start showing the conventions in full by the time August rolls around? It's disgusting, if we retake the White House and the Senate do you think we can pull their licenses? They've failed to follow their obligation to act as public forums, they don't deserve the free money we've given them in the form of monopoly rights over the spectrum they control.

2. Yes, but it will be small
Not because of the strength of the message (or lack thereof), but because I really think that the majority of likely voters have already made up their minds this time. Bush has so divided and polarized the electorate, that there are likely to be fewer "undecideds" leading up to election day than ever before. Just my 2 cents.

5. People often change their minds about supporting the incumbent...
after the challenger's convention. * will lose support.

6. Not much, if the DNC strategists are to be believed
They think everyone except for about 5% of undecideds has already made up their minds- so they're playing for a "magic" 3%.

In addition, if Kerry gets serious about media re-regulation, his FCC can promulgate rules designed to hold the media accountible for their public interest obligations- as well as breaking up the current conglomeration. You can't issue fines or take action against licenses without first having the appropriate rules in place.

8. The lack of network coverage is a disgrace!!!
Did this EVER happen before?

I'm old enough to remember when ALL the networks competed to show both conventions in great detail.

It's really quite scary that this could happen.:nopity:

Maybe the protestors at the RNC in New York should try to storm the convention hall or something like that TV would have to show! :headbang:

9. That is Rove's wet dream
* can pose as the 'law and order' sheriff.

Protesters will be derided and ridiculed as the "hate America" crowd.

The GOP has a "make my day" attitude toward stuff like that. Ashcroft will use the "Hatriot Act" to full advantage and declare them all terrorists and ship them off to be tortured. And it will energize *'s base.

It was only Hubert Humphrey and Mayor Richard Daley in Chicago in 1968 where I recall something like that hurting the nominee of a convention. And it probably would have only helped Nixon had the same thing happened at his convention that year.
