Get your head out of the clouds or whatever part of your anatomy ........ |

Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 06:45 PM by nomaco-10
it may be inhabiting these days, and take a real look at the news stories of the day that should be in the forefront of the network news.
As a retired nurse, I think it is monumental that everyone take notice that one of the most prestigious, international groups, "Doctors Without Borders" has left Afghanistan because of the situation there and the lack of compassion and respect of the American military to even acknowledge or protect their presence to treat the innocent, sick and wounded civilians of Afghanistan.
Also, lost amongst the corporate whore media blanket coverage of the convention today, is that over 100 Iraqi civilians lost their lives. Unreputedly, the bloodiest day in Iraq since the thief we let steal the office of the President of the United States declared war on a sovereign nation and then declared "Mission Accomplished" on a country that had already been reduced to the status of a third world country, contained by sanctions and was no threat to this nation whatsoever. WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE!!!
Who at this convention is speaking up for them? Who is speaking out for people like me that are incensed by the needless killing and the atrocities that continue daily by our own government in the countries that we have allowed to become the new mass graves of Iraq. In case you missed it, another story today on the network news, reported several soldiers have been arrested for throwing Iraqis off bridges for the pure enjoyment of watching them drown since the occupation. It's the tip of the iceberg, we already know that children were tortured, women were raped and many innocent civilians in US custody were murdered without conscience or consequences.
I was going to pull the lever for John Kerry this November because I tried to convince myself that a vote for Kerry really wasn't a vote for Kerry as much as it was a vote against bush*. I'm not sure I can do that anymore. I am still wrestling with the Supreme Court nominees that could be appointed under bush* and how they could effect minorities, women, the poor our privacy issues and even our ability to evolve in the sciences that could enrich all of our lives and those of of future generations to come.
If I don't hear something truthful and progressive at this convention pretty soon, I think the repercussions will be profound and permanent on the democratic party. Someone better take notice pretty soon and acknowledge our concerns because to many of us, the big tent seems to be getting smaller and smaller all the time....
PEACE TO US ALL IN OUR LIFETIMES

Someone whose failed policies led to the DWB pullout?
I don't understand what you're trying to say.

I said, I would pull the lever for Kerry, but it would be a symbolic vote AGAINST BUSH*. GEESH..... Take your party hat off, put your drink down and read a post before you make a comment. So sorry to interrupt the "love fest".

YOu said, quote
I was going to pull the lever for John Kerry this November because I tried to convince myself that a vote for Kerry really wasn't a vote for Kerry as much as it was a vote against bush*. I'm not sure I can do that anymore.
That quote says you can't do it anymore.
This is flame bait and you can't even defend it.

16. Okay, let me make it clearer.. |
|
I was going to - implies I am no longer going to do something.
I'm not sure I can - implies I am no longer going to do something.
Is that better?

4. If you don't hear constant bitching and moaning |
|
That will just cause the other 95% of the country to turn this off altogether. It just won't win an election, it never has and it never will. I wish people would just try to understand that. Americans vote for hope and optimism, always have and always will.

11. Your reply is the very crux of my post..... |
|
"Don't rock the boat" "Don't ask the important questions" "Electability" is all we have to offer as a party". "Show a united front, even if it's a pretense."
Sorry, but I am familiar with that lockstep mentality. They stole the election four years ago and have been riding roughshod on the rest of the world ever since, no thanks.

courage, hope, faith over fear, despair and cynicism. It doesn't mean you ignore the important issues we face and I don't think this convention has done that at all. But it means that we have to be more than anger and finger pointing, even righteous anger. We have to offer a way out, a way forward. If you want somebody to follow you, you have to tell them where you're leading them.

10. If you cannot see that the focus has to be to win. |
|
If Kerry is not elected then we are screwed. It is that simple, WWIII, folks like you and me writing our dissent on the internet will be harassed and probably without work, doctors won't treat who ever they don't want to treat here in the US because of their politics (lawyers, pro-life).
Yes, it is horrible what is going on because of US in Iraq and Afghanistan, but, it will be 10 times worse if the weed that would be king is appointed to the office that he has used to harm so many. In addition, you and me and other citizens of the US will be caused to suffer and hurt more than you can imagine.
Keep your eye on the immediate goal - Idiot out - Kerry in....
Then you will see the changes. Do you have to be told of the good deeds before they happen to appreciate them?

In the war between pure ideology and good strategy, strategy wins. Pure ideology quickly becomes ineffective fanaticism.
