Poll question: Does Al Gore potentially have another run inside him?
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 01:11 AM by dems4america
I hope Kerry and Edwards win this time. God help us if they don't. However, I believe that there are many that still love this man. Seeing him out there fighting for our right still is so inspiring. He will only be 60 in 08, still young. I believe if he thought the time was right and he could make a difference, he would run. Even if it meant taking on Hillary.

It would be just like a Nixon play. Lost in '60 as VP. Ran in 8 years as a party elder and won.

What do you think?

GO KERRY AND EDWARDS!

2. While I think he is a valuable member of the Democratic
party, I think he was crushed by the 2000 fiasco and really do not see him running again. 04 would have been his chance and I really think he would have won.

5. I think he can put it behind him and run again. Being around him
in the past years quite abit, I don't think he is bothered by it still.

6. He's a wonderful statesman and
a terrible politician. He'd make someone an excellent, say, Secretary of Defense....

8. Terrible politician?
He has lost one election in his career. All the others have been blow outs:

Campaign record

2000 Ran for President of the United States, won the popular vote
1996 Re-elected Vice President of the United States
1992 Elected Vice President of the United States
1990 Re-elected U.S. Senator (70%)
1984 Elected U.S. Senator (61%)
1982 Re-elected U.S. Congressman (unopposed)
1980 Re-elected U.S. Congressman (79%)
1978 Re-elected U.S. Congressman (unopposed)
1976 Elected U.S. Congressman (94%)

I don't buy into that right wing claim that he is not a good politician.

12. Its not right wing crap...

Its an opinion. He ran a terrible campaign. He's awkward and uncomfortable with people. He made terrible choices beginning with Lieberman. Then he refused to allow Bill Clinton, the most popular politician in the country, campaign for him. Hell, at the very least, Clinton could have tipped Arkansas and Gore would be president today. He also refused to run on a platform of peace and prosperity.

I backed him 100%. I was thrilled when Clinton chose him-I'm from Mississippi and have followed his career since his first race. His father was a hero of mine. I adored Al Gore and I am sick that he was cheated out of the presidency he had won. But, in my opinion, he was a lousy candidate. He simply did not project well. Criticizing a Democrat's political skills does not mean you are criticizing the person.

I repeat, I loved Al Gore. But if we refuse to recognize our weaknesses, we're doomed to repeat our mistakes.

16. Yes it is right wing crap
What are you going to say next? He was stiff and awkward? He wore earthtones? He was a flip flopper?

He had a big choice on whether to run with Clinton, who had lied to the American people repeatedly in the past 4 years, or not run with him, but use the accomplishments. You or no one else knows whether getting Clinton to campaing would have helped him. Hell, Gore got more of the black vote than Clinton ever did. I would like to know where Clinton would have helped if he would have actaully been there. I can tell you, most people in the south don't even like Clinton anymore. It is a shame, but they just don't.

Do you honestly not see how a another liberal could possibly have concerns about Al Gores ability/aptitude as a candidate? Not his intelligence, his values, his quality but his political acumen. I wanted him to be a good candidate, just like I wanted Dukakis to be a good candidate. I voted for them both, and would again. But both of them were were not telegenic.

9. I'm not sure
If it's 2008, he'll certainly have plenty of competition. I suspect Edwards, Hillary Clinton, and possibly Howard Dean would run.

I would support him over Hillary and probably Edwards.

14. (IMHO) No
He lost my support when he ran such a terrible campaign in 2000 and I can't be the only one who feels this way.

18. Nope. Kicked out for dissing Kerry in the VP selection. Karma is a bitch.
he would have won again, of course - and had more integrity in his pinky than the present ticket. Great loss.
