The Media Whores Should be Ashamed!!! (Vent)
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 09:39 AM by Armstead
Last nite I attempted to follow some of the convention coverage on the cable networks. I suspect my blood pressure has risen by several points.

1)Bill O'Reilly was spouting off about how dangerous the present situation is because the left has become like Nazis in their control of information. Michael Moore is the second most powerful man in the Democratic Party, and he was literally compasred to Goebells, Hitler's propaganda chief. According to Billy, the left are dangerous Nazis who are getting far too powerful.

2)None of the networks bothered showing Dennis K's speech. Frankly, it wasn't a great speech (I did see it on CSpan) but Dennis was a presidential candidate, for God sake. CNN had Anderson Cooper talking with some comedians and had some whimsical report about nothing at all instead. So much more important to hear what Anderson thinks than what a presidential candidate has to say to the convention.

3)Chris Matthews and his panel interrupted Sharpton's speech and they were all filled with righteous indignation that Sharpton went off script. He, Howard Fineman and Doris Goodman were all atwitter about how Sharpton had hijacked the convention, and what it was an outrage was that such a demonstration of liberal and black anger and "Bush bashing" was allowed to be seen in public.

4)After Edwards' speech, and a few perfunctory words from Wolfie, Judy and Jeff Greenfield, they chose to give at least ten minutes of uninterrupted attack spin by Ralph Reed attacking Edwards and Kerry and Democrats....Those CNN fuckheads couldn't even allow the audience any time to digest Edwards speech and feel good (if one liked it) or at least make up one's own mind.....The only consolation was that Ralph Reed came across as so dark and angry and mean-spirited after Edward's sunny optimistic speech.

Screw the mainstream media. The nation had better wake up DAMN SOON that democracy is in grave danger because we have turned over the media so completely to Corporate Mind Shapers and to PT Barnum journalism.

Rant over. That is all.

1. Cut your cable!
The only thing you have to lose is tons of RNC propoganda and other assorted crap. Why do you pay for TV? TV IS FREE!!!

2. Thanks for the summary. I did not get home until Mr. Edwards speech
It seems that the networks seem compelled to keep up their campaign of lies.

Did you see Akron Mayor Plusquellic? He is considering a run for Ohio Governor. Impressions?

14. He's pretty much bulletproof in Akron
How he'd fare down-state, I can't even begin to guess, but if he's going to run against whoever the Repubs replace Taft with (and you just KNOW they're gonna), he'd better start getting name recognition up- and down-state. Even in Cleveland, just a hop-skip away from Akron, his name draws blank stares.

So did Plusquellic give a speech then? I couldn't watch last night, I had an errand that took all evening, so I only got to catch part of Al Sharpton.

3. I'd like to see
somebody like FAIR do a study to quantify just how much time was spent SHOWING the Convention versus REPUBLICAN spin masters commenting on the convention.

I'm guessing it's somewhere in the 50/50 range at the moment.

11. I saw that too
I wonder if CNN realizes that they have turned off their "liberal" audience? All any of these stations care about is their ratings.

Personally, I think they have gotten as bad as Fox. I wrote to them last night and told them that I no longer watch CNN because of their obvious slant toward the right.

15. Those who have turned off CNN
BRAVO and good on you!!! :toast:

Those who haven't, try it, you'll like it!

I'm going to write to Nightline and let them know they have it wrong. I do not tolerate the hate talk on radio, and I sure as hell won't let it in my living room via TV.

5. We Americans fell sleep at the wheel when the Repugs were taking over.
Our leadership has too many people sold to special interests and too few Wellstones. BUT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO LEARN ABOUT ISSUES AND SELECT PEOPLE WHO WOULD WATCH OUT FOR US. Unfortunately, we were sleep. It took over 20 years for the repugs to do this and transfer ownership of our country to the Corporations/Oligarchy. It is going to take time to recoup it.
DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND IS AN INFORMATION POINT, A GATHERING POINT, AN ENERGIZING POINT. THANK GOD FOR DU.

18. Amen Little Apple
We've heard the "liberal media" mantra so often from the RW that even a lot of Democrats believe it, though the Democrats starting to believe it is starting to change. Fox, for all their faults, was insidiously clever (or maybe diabolical is more appropriate) calling themselves "Fair & Balanced" - thereby giving the impression that the other news networks, who were generally conservative, in actuality, (but not as RW as Fox at the time) were liberal

It will take years of creating our own mantras ("Corporate Media" or "Conservative Media" or "Right Wing Media") to actually get true fair & balanced coverage.

8. It is a disgusting display of opinions rather then analysis.
If I see Tweety compare THK to coffee one more time, my head will likely explode. If I see Judy refer to Kerry as a Massachusets liberal one more time, I will scream! I am sick to death of Campbell Brown interviewing people in the hall and interrupting them and saying, "to be fair (insert RNC talking point here)".

9. I just watched the PBS coverage.
It may not be perfect, but it beats the hell out of the cable networks, save for maybe C-Span.

10. I really don't know why anyone subjects theirselves to these
self inflicted wounds. Especially for Our Convention of the Century!

C-span is where it's at! Kerry's going to win and all that destructive negativity is just so much passing of wind.

13.  the left are dangerous Nazis who are getting far too powerful.
THAT right there says they are SCARED shitless! We're powerful? There's non-stop Kerry bashing on EVERY network (except C-SPAN and PBS)and endless RW radio shills and WE are TOO powerful? If they say it enough, the sheeple will believe it. If they say it enough, the sheeple will believe it. If they say it enough, the sheeple will believe it. :eyes:

I feel a revolt coming on. And it ain't gonna be pretty. This has become very dirty. This has become more evil than I ever thought it would. The people aren't gonna take it anymore. :grr:

The media has betrayed us. They have betrayed THEIR own families, for crying out loud! Don't they have children? Don't they have elderly parents who depend on Medicare and SS? Don't they have relatives who struggle to pay their bills? Don't they know SOMEONE who has no job, no health care? WHY????? doesn't EVERY journalist in this country TAKE A STAND? WHY????? doesn't EVERY journalist in this country stand up and REFUSE to do the bidding of their corporate owners and the WH? I don't get it. Have they no PRIDE? I wonder if any of them ever go home at night and hang their heads in shame? If they don't, they should.

21. if we were that powerful
If we were that powerful, the Plame outing would be nightly headlines in the news, like Lewinsky was back under Clinton. We'd have armies of reporters tracking down every person in the White House, and their relatives, that could have outed Plame. After all, outing Plame is flat out treason and endangered national security. Bill getting a B/J from Monica endangered only his marriage.

If we were that powerful, every lie from Bush about Medicare, the environment, Iraq, Al Qaeda, etc would be major stories.

If we were that powerful, the Bush donors that drove the submarine that killed the Japanese sailors would have been 10 times the story that Clinton's Lincoln Bedroom guests was... after all, nobody died sleeping in the Lincoln Bedroom.

If we were that powerful, Lori Klausutis (sp?) would be a household name like Chandra Levy.

22. I knew the mainstream media was
distorting the facts but this is really scary. Democrats are now being portrayed as dangerous Nazis who are getting far too powerful. This makes my blood boil, the very people who have all but destroyed our democracy make these accusations.

I don't know how any person with an ounce of integrity can remain silent. I have been watching C-Span for the coverage but knew they would try to pull something during the convention. I am sick to my stomach.

19. We will remember this during the pig convention in September
We will see if the media is as fair as they claim to be, somehow I doubt we will find as many Dems on after every major speech.

If that happens, we will remind them...and we will collectively rub their media whore faces in their failure.

The quality is about the same, you get to see everything, and you don't have to listen to all the "experts" who don't know anything.

We had 4 years to bring chronic attention to this. I said we should have been protesting outside THEIR doors during the run up to war..it truly is a sham.
