Dems look hip (repost and more serious this time)
OK, last night in all the fervor at the end of Edwards' speech I started this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=2096237&mesg_id=2096237

Which is kinda silly. Now, after a night's sleep I'd like to readdress this seriously.

The Dems do look hip, happening, and fun. They got them dancing, they got them yelling, they got them crying. The CSPAN shot of aged veterans rocking to the closing rap song will stay with me for quite a while.

The Dems are running the gamut of emotional responses to impassioned policy speeches. (Yeah, look deep and you'll see that Sharpton's address is policy too) The Dems are appealing to the young, old, black, Hispanic, Asian, Native America, white, male and female portions of our population.

They are tapping the anger, and the hope of a brighter future equally.

They are, also, appealing to the main line, old school Democrats.

Its a powerful message and by plugging it into entertainment (where the line is blurred more and more every day) they energize the party and attract more swing voters, the few that there are.

So, what say you DU, how do you feel about this new, hip Democratic party?

2. Hey, it worked in '96.
Remember Hillary & Tipper doing the Macarena? (sp?)

The only people it "offends" or bothers are die-hard stick-up-the-ass Repubs anyway, and like we had any shot at their vote in the first place. They'd vote for a monkey if their party nominated it. Oh, wait...

3. I have to admit, I loved watching the peeps at the Convention
dancing and singing and basking in the love and all that. But at the same time I said to myself: "Look at them! They have no rhythm." Many were clapping off-tempo and dancing to any beat but the beat of the music. I asked myself "Where could I see so many people who were even less coordinated than that?" Then the answer hit: "At the Republican Convention, of course!" :-) B-) :smoke:

5. so what... that's the beauty of it all!
People love weddings, and weddings are the best place to see who has rhythm and who doesn't.

7. Most people aren't particularly good dancers--
--but I sure don't see why that should stop them. Comments like the above always remind me of the story of an isolated tribe that got access to tape recorders. Before, everyone would sing traditional work songs, wedding songs, etc. After the tape recorders came in, they recorded the few with the best voices and listened to the tapes, and the average voices just shut up. I think that perceptions of how people ought to look while dancing have been excessively warped by watching MTV, where the only people who dance are athletically gifted professionals who get paid to do it.

4. I agree
I have always thought the Democratic party looked more like America than the repukes do. I thought the music was great: Wyclef Jean, John Mellencamp and the Black Eyed Peas! That Black Eyed Peas song was used for the NBA playoffs so people would recognize it even if they aren't interested in politics. It was a great move and showed how inclusive we are. I also liked the National Anthem sung in a traditional Native American language on Tuesday. That was great!

6. IMO
It's a beautiful site , It's America .
The Democratic party is the SOUL of America .
We Rock :headbang:

While watching and listening to this Convention
I a former Green Nader Voter (96' not 2000) have
become even prouder to Now Be A Democrat .

I should put the Bumper Sticker on my Car
"Bush made me a Democrat"

While I understand the dissappointment of some
with what they consider censorship , I feel
that their Voice has been aknowledged from the
stage and am very Impressed with the inclusion of
Black Eyes Peas , Kucinich got to speak , so did
Dean and Sharpton .

This has been the first Convention I watched
gavel to gavel and I'm thuroughly enjoying it .

:headbang:
