Al-Zarqawi Captured - Report (?)
Not posting this in Latest Breaking News, just in case this isn't really true...although it would be convenient for the Repubs...

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, head of the group suspected of beheading two Bulgarian hostages, has reportedly been arrested in Western Iraq.

Al-Zarqawi has been arrested by Iraqi police and US military close to the border with Syria, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported, citing information posted on the Internet.

Zarqawi was dressed in a white T-shirt and blue jeans. Reports claim that he didn't oppose the arrest.

1. Didn't "oppose" the arrest?
What's that supposed to mean? Do they mean that he didn't resist arrest? Now who are they gonna blame? Time to get a new boogeyman.

3. No AP report yet
Here's a search on Al-Zarqawi. You can keep clicking on this link to get the latest:

The latest I've seen is that his group kidnapped a Somali driver in the past few hours or so.

Waiting for more confirmation...

ON EDIT:

Sorry, DS1, that's probably what you referred to (I thought you were saying the Russian story had been pulled).

5. Yes, this WOULD "just happen" to occur the day of Kerry's acceptance.
Problem is, people are already starting to ask openly about the timing of such things with the Bush administration (Berger investigation/9-11 Report... and what was it that happened the day or two before Edwards was announced as the running mate?)

This one, if true, might even be too blatant to go over most voters' heads. At the very least, their credibility is so shot that people are going to ask it even if it IS a coincidence. See, people don't TRUST Bush anymore.

8. And what's going to happen if the kidnappings don't stop?
If they really did capture this nut and the kidnappings continue, who are they going to blame it on then?

OH, I know! Usama's still out there! Maybe we shoudl try to find him again!

10. I guess the resistance will magically stop now, if this is true.
Just like it stopped when they captured Saddam.

If they really did capture Zarqawi, and this guy really DOES exist (which I doubt sometimes) - well, good riddance.

But the timing... hmmm, as Bush would say: "Faaaabulous!"

13. Just enough time, also, for them to interrogate him, for him to "admit"...
... that he was working hand-in-hand with Saddam and Bin Laden to attack the U.S.

Well, if Novosti now gets its news that way, it's about as reliable as a British government WMD report ...

20. Seems to me
Wasn't there another report like this a month or two ago? Same kind of circumstances and got pulled almost immediately. This is def ringing some bells for me. I double checked the date on the thread to make sure this was new. Maybe it's just me.

21. this seems to be based on an old article
A few weeks ago there were reports about Zarqawi being in custody. However they were later denied and attributed to communication blunder.
