Only Republicans are Patriotic
Remember only Republicans have the right to be patriotic. Only they have the right to the flag.... They own the Flag. They always remind us that this is a republic, not a democracy. ROFL! Things are kind of like they were back in the 60's and 70's. Just take for instance the little lapel flag pins. On the tv show All In The Family, Archie Bunker always had his little flag pin on the collar of his coat. Another tidbit and it is very haunting.... watch the movie End of The Road and it will appear that this movie was made today even though it was filmed in 1969. Note all of the little American Flag stickers located on Coca Cola machines and other items in the movie. My friends........ history is repeating itself, the NEOCONS have picked up where they left off in the early 70's after the Vietnam war........ The US Flag is strikingly Scary and haunting in this movie. Watch it if you get the chance... Anyway, REPUBLICANS ALL SUCK.......I always vote a straight democratic ticket...

2. problem is, they equate patriotism with wrapping themselves in the flag
they have no true idea what REAL PATRIOTISM really is.

Instead of holding dear what it represents.

10. We need to acknowledge our own guilt in this matter
The Liberals/Leftists in this country in the 1960s and the 1970s rejected the Flag just as much as the Conservatives embraced it. We gave it to them. We chose to disaccociate ourselves with the flag. That doesn't excuse their BS, of course. But it is a part of the story we should acknowledge.

11. There Are A Lot Of Similarities
The GOOP used Vietnam to fully hijack the "flag", but this has always been the xenophobic party going all the way back to its opposition to immigration and strict tarrifs.

The Southern strategy was a deliberate attempt to blur the racial, religious and political lines which brought the Archie Bunkers into the party and kept them there by making it seem like this was a patriotic thing to do. Too bad Archie didn't notice this when his union job was outsourced...LOL.

I've always said they may as well take the stars out of the flag in the bible belt and put a cross in its place. It's a symbol, but like in the idolotry Chritianity supposedly claims to disapprove of, the flag, like the cross is one of those idols that is used as both shield and weapon.

The real pisser is that when the flag falls, like it is right now (where's Henry Hyde???) then those "patriots" (translation: chickenshithawks) blame us for their messes. The problem is, we always clean them up.

12. Someone once asked me...
why I did not fly a flag, either constantly or on days such as Flag Day, ect. (Keep in mind that this person does, albeit incorrectly, most of the time.) In their mind, it was a question of my being unpatriotic since I didn't.
I said that flying (or not flying) a flag didn't make me a patriot any more than wearing a nun's habit made me one.
My patriotism will be shown this year by my vote: Kerry/Edwards.
