21. Clinton for pure ability to speak

I liked Obama's speech for it's content and what it means for the party. I like Edward's speech for what it means to the campaign, and the Rev's for the power and Teresa's for the grace.

BUT

Bill Clinton is perhaps the best political orator I have heard in the last 50 years. When the others speak there is a certain tension as I wait and psychically urge them to do well; it's like listening to a skilled player attempt a virtuoso piece for which he or she is well prepared, but for whom it's still a challenge. With Clinton it's like listening to a virtuoso player with a complete and casual mastery. I feel no tension whatsoever, I can give myself over to just appreciating just how damn good at it he is.

I don't always agree with him (god knows), but he could probably read a grocery shopping list and make me weep and howl.

You can guess how I voted :-).
