Tucker and Novak tag-teaming him -- he's holding his own.

"How you enjoying your tax cut, Bob?"

40. And you're basing your entire opinion on him not voting before?...
I didn't vote for the first time until I was in my thirties...so what? Quite a few people got turned off by politics at one time or another...for me it was during my high school, college, and military years: 1965 through 1981. That covers the fallout from the bogus Warren Commission, the Vietnam War, Watergate, and the hostages in Iran. Any wonder why I was a little disenchanted by the political process?

Meanwhile, Damon at age 33 has seen the effects of Iran-Contra, the attacks on Clinton, and the Coup of December 2000. What opinion do you think he had of politics based on what he had already seen? We're actually fortunate that people like Damon are returning to politics in such large numbers.

Maybe you should know better than to be so judgemental.

him not voting (I really find it ridiculous and inexcusable not to vote), but he did say one reason why was because he lives in a very democratic state so he figured it wouldn't matter anyways.

He's obviously not ignorant of political issues, but I sort of see why he wouldn't find it very important in a state where one vote most likely wouln't effect a presidential race. Granted, that doesn't mean one vote doesn't count in more local races, congressional and senate races, and other state wide races.

including the current governor.

Also, his disinterest in politics is not the only reason I don't like him. I just don't like his acting style, films, etc. Not that you've implied it in your post (but others have), but I hope it's not required that I like every actor who happens to be a liberal or a Democrat.

37. Friend of Howard Zinn
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 05:34 PM by KT2000
Matt Damon grew up next to Howard Zinn. He also read for one of Zinn's audio books.

Damon grew up in a coop neighborhood and I am sure his childhood was steeped in politics. I find him an interesting person and I am guessing that his politics are a bit more complicated than the average person. I am inclined to be curious about him rather than judgmental - I hope.

Edit - changed Noam Chomsky to Howard Zinn

53. Snooty?
Holy cow! To acknowledge that someone who grows up with an intense political atmosphere in his community would probably have a more complicated political life than most is not "snooty." Most of us do not have that background, nor do we have the experience of living in a community defined by its politics. I would imagine that an adolescent would internalize "politics" much differently that the average person.

Would a child in that environment rebel against a life defined by a political stance?

Does his not voting reflect a break that allowed him to develop his own world view and political beliefs?

Like I said - I find him an interesting and intelligent person.

You are entitled to you judgment though.

Intersexed persons are born with a gender anomaly, usually ambiguous genitalia. Questing is a person who hasn't figured out what their sexual alignment is but is actively seeking the answer.

31. I'm selfish. I like celebrities to speak up
because they do influence people who are hard to reach. There are people who didn't watch Al Sharpton last night. Or Obama. Or Kucinech. Or Edwards. They have no idea what the Dems stand for...but they do know Meryl, Robert Di Niro, Robin Williams, Whoopi, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, John Mellencamp, Jon Bon Jovi, Jessica Lange, and countless others. These people do bring in votes. Sure, it's shallow. But at this point, I just want to win. Our country desperately needs new leadership. These celebrities are taxpayers. They work for a living. They have as much right to speak up as anyone else. So, if the easily influenced will vote for Kerry based on Ben Affleck, fine with me.
I just want to win.

He didn't want to waste that money making sure that everyday Americans could afford health care.
Or properly equipping our men and women in Iraq - who have to buy their own body armor."
