"We worship an Awesome God"
For anybody who follows any sort of spiritual path, let's make a list of what is awesome about our God. Then I'll compile it all, repost, and we can all send it to our local newspapers. Good idea?

I'll start:

My God loves me and understands me, even when I am so angry at the very concept of a God because people are using His Name to spread hate and kill.

1. Right on, I feel the same way. I thought that that was one of the best
lines so far. I stated in a thread earlier that this whole convention has been so uplifting and hopeful. It makes me feel like the desire for love and understanding will always be more powerful.

Thanks for posting this Sandnsea.

and tells me to care for them.

My God tells me to love my brother and sister as myself and that I am their keeper.

My God tells me that I am not perfect and that am I entitled to his beneficence no more or no less than any other human being.

We're on the same wavelength.

Religion: God is, was, and ever shall be.
Science: Energy can neither be created or destroyed.

Therefore: God=Energy

Hides colorful eggs around the house for children to find.

More people should worship The Easter Bunny.

He's a warm and fuzzy deity.

37. As far as I know ... Sorta. Kinda.
I respect ALL spiritual faiths and use them to inform my own. I've also relied upon meditation (TM, Zen, dynamic) and satori experiences.

Paul Tillich, like me, was part of a Lutheran upbringing. Less like me, he incorporates something akin to Kierkegaard's Christian existentialism in the expression of his viewpoint. However, whereas others may relate to God as 'other,' I relate to God as one whose very existence is within God. There is nothing that is 'me' that is other than 'of God.' (No, I don't anthropomorphise and proclaim mundane nonsense about how 'God speaks.' )

While Tillich posits that our comprehension of God is bounded by language, I believe comprehension is ultimately bounded by experience (hence the Zen influence) even though limited in its transmission and conveyance by language. I most often avoid the slicing and dicing of my comprehension with the sharp cookie-cutters of my limited vocabulary. (I don't think in words.) I find I'm most attuned when I'm least reductionist.

One of my more favored quotes is: "I'm a spiritual being having a human experience." It brings a smile.

22. My God is All-Forgiving
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 05:11 PM by SemiCharmedQuark
My God is constantly forgiving me, even though I know I do things wrong. I feel like He is always watching out for me, like a parent who's always ready to forgive as long as we try our best.
Thanks for posting this. Why do people feel that Belief in God and Liberalism are opposing sides? I mean, didn't Jesus say help the poor, clothe the naked, feed the hungry, forgive, understanding over violence...etc? I can only speak for Christianity, unfortunately I don't know much about the other religions, but as far as I know they don't preach hatred either. It is not the fault of all people who believe that religion has become twisted by some and forced on other people. I respect people's right to be atheist or agnostic, please respect my right not to be. I don't try and convert people to christianity, please don't try and convert me or deride me into being atheist or agnostic.

36. As hard as it is
We must! And we must remove them and all all like them from power as we have done in the past. Humanity has a wonderful ability to put an end to people such as these. We also learn what flaws in our societies allowed them to ever come to power in the first place and then try to create something better. It is a loooooooong process of trial and error and in a day with weapons at our disposal that have the ability to wipe us from the face of the earth we must act quick. We do this because we love. You grok?

25. My God
needs everyone's help. After all, we are the eyes, ears, hands, mouths, and brains through which many things are accomplished upon this earth. Some good. Some bad. All good in the long run even if that universal good is the fact the humanity destroys itself. What an Awesome math equation.

God=Energy and abides by the laws of science. It is up to all of us to tap into that energy and understand that the universe is so much greater than this planet. It is about time we recognize that and stop all our petty arguments and move forward together. Wouldn't it be nice if humanity actually survives long enough to become part of the future. Wouldn't God be pleased.

Disclaimer: I don't really know anything about God or the grand plan but discussion is good and anything that gets humanity moving in the right direction, for a change, is worthwhile in my opinion.

But continued to love everyone else anyway. My God rebuked those who idolized ritual at the expense of compassion. His message was so strong that it survived the death of Jesus on the cross, and continues to survive, though it has been badly misused.

God exists beyond human understanding, and yet speaks to the hearts of those who are willing to listen.

As theologians say, God is transcendent (above all things) and immanent (in all things).

45. A higher power, a greater energy
connects us all. Science tells us that matter and energy are neither created or destroyed, but transformed from one form to another. Everything on our planet is made of atoms that have existed since the beginning of time. Every living thing is made of those atoms as well, and each of us has atoms in us that have at one time been a part of everything that has ever lived. Each of us has atoms that were once part of Jesus's body, Hitler's, the wisest person, the worst criminal, every man, every woman and every child. We are our brother's keeper because our brother is US and will always be.
