Sullen, Depressed President Retreats Into Private, Paranoid World

A sullen President George W. Bush is withdrawing more and more from aides and senior staff, retreating into a private, paranoid world where only the ardent loyalists are welcome.

“Yes, there are concerns,” a top Republican political advisor admitted privately Wednesday. “The George W. Bush we see today is not the same, gregarious, back-slapping President of old. He’s moody, distrustful and withdrawn.”

Bush’s erratic behavior and sharp mood swings led White House physician Col. Richard J. Tubb to put the President on powerful anti-depressant drugs after he stormed off stage rather than answer reporters' questions about his relationship with indicted Enron executive Kenneth J. Lay, but White House insiders say the strong, prescription medications seem to increase Bush’s sullen behavior towards those around him.

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, the man most responsible for waging America’s war on terrorism, complains to staff that he gets very little time with the President and gets most of his marching orders lately from Ashcroft. Some on Ridge’s staff gripe privately that Ashcroft is “Bush’s Himmler,” a reference to Heinrich Himmler, Chief of the SS (the German Police) under Adolph Hitler.

Bush Walks Alone

Wish this had more credence, but it has the ring of truth.

3. Two days in a row of articles describing the "War President"
As a bipolar paranoiac....
We're seeing history here..."The Crumbling Of A Dynasty"

I saw a campaign pic of Buxh holding an ice cream cone as it melted for the cameras. He then pitched it because..."He doesn't eat UNTESTED food".

6. This is fixing to break wide open
or fall like dead weight.

I'm guessing the former. All the blood on Bush's hands is getting to him. He is having a hard time spinning a web of psychological protection.

9. That's why he wouldn't eat the moon pie from the Amish girl..
.. he's seriously sinking to Nixonian levels... he's a fucking nut. I dont' mean to besmirch the mentally ill in our country. I know it's a serious illness. But Bush is just whacked. The idea that he wants ALL of us screened for mental illness scares the shit out of me.. only one who is afflicted as such would have such wierd ideas.

11. I can point out that we don't allow our school bus drivers
to work with such disorders

He's just the guy on the nuke button.

12. Yes, and when people are dying gruesome deaths
and suffering mightily in the wake of decisions made by one man, that man should not be allowed to hide serious psychological problems.

It is nobody's business how pathalogical Bush, or any one else is in the private sector, as long as they are not harming themselves or others. But, right now, Bush is the POTUS and shouldn't be...if he is experiencing serious psychological problems.

17. An Amish girl offered him a moonpie
and he wouldn't take it. It was intercepted by a Secret Service agent. Bush won't eat anything that is potentially spiked. He has reason to fear an assassination attempt by the Amish, I reckon.

4. This part is creepy...
“Too many make the mistake of thinking Dick Cheney is the real power in the Bush administration,” says one senior Homeland Security aide. “They’re wrong. It’s Ashcroft and that is reason enough for all of us to be very, very afraid.”

7. I don't buy that bit at all... Ashcroft is too dumb to be the real power
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 12:02 AM by thebigidea
Cheney, sadly - is as smart as he is evil. Though lately Bunker Boy is flopping around like a beached whale on his uh, beach of failure? There's a metaphor stretch for ya.

"Am I the evil genius in the corner that nobody ever sees come out of his hole? It's a nice way to operate, actually."

No question that Bush is completely out of touch and in a world of his own, though. Delusional!

8. I dunno...It kinda looks like a "Christian" fanatic has been...
....making decisions for at least the last 6-8 months.

From box turtles to stem cells, I think Ashcroft has had the Chimp's attention.

14. I'm Skeptical Too
I find it hard to believe that a guy who was beaten in a statewide election by a corpse would have been able to consolidate power in this crowd of mini-Machiavelli's.

I just can't see Cheney, Rummy, or Powell taking any lead from a guy who couldn't beat a dead body in a Senate election.

15. I'd love to believe this
But...since when has Capitol Hill Blue had unrestricted insider access to Bush aides and other insiders?

It could certainly be true, but I just wonder how CHB gets its info.

16. Yeah, I know.
Would be nice if more names came out with Dr. Frank. I suspect, if this is true, the effort to keep a lid on this is a preoccupation.
