I know what the CNN shit's all about
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 12:35 AM by Moonbeam_Starlight
There was a big article in the Dallas Morning News about a week or so ago, I think a lot of major papers carried it--about how Fox has become the network of the republicans and CNN was more favored by Dems and liberals.

Big series on it and a lot of Fox watchers accusing CNN of being "too liberal", etc.

Funny that CNN should make such a hard right turn during our convention, eh?

Think it's a coincidence? I fucking don't.

Bet.

1. Cable

Cable infotainment has become the realm of the right wing. All key demos indicate that. Smarter people (like us) go elsewhere for information.

Still, I just ran a RECON MISSION over in Freeperville and THEY think the media is bending over backwards to help Kerry get elected.

I say; "Are you nucking futs???"

3. Oh I know
I haven't liked CNN in years, but I mean this very very obvious pandering to the repukes, this bias that is so obvious it is jaw-dropping, that just really started recently.

I think they are trying HARD to overcome their "Dems like them better, so they must be liberal media" label.

Funny thing is, at this rate, they will end up with NO viewers!

5. Confession

I work in the media. You would not believe, (yes you would), the pressure these cable outlets are under to go after the FOX Audience.

Executives are "terra-feyed" of being labled "liberal" OR having the right wing turn on them.

They believe there is this HUGE DEMOGRAPHIC of buying power that they are losing to SATAN, aka Rupe Murdoch.

Scary. Really Scary stuff.

8. Then they are idiots
If they haven't got the common sense to see that Fox has a lock on one niche audience, all they have to do is look at how much money Michael Moore makes to realize there is a whole 'nuther audience out there.

Fuck those morons.

10. By the numbers

CNN continues to have a higher advertising rate than FOX because of the type of viewer that tunes in. The numbers show the "average" watching time is six minutes. FOX has an average watch time of 22 minutes, because the FOX viewer wants to watch the commentary.

CNN thinks if they can get THAT viewer to come on over, the ad rates would go through the roof.

Anyone who thinks we have a free & truthful media is just insane.

11. Translation: Fear of Advertisers.
That's what the real deal is. The right is busy organizing businesses who advertise to demand that the media stay on the right reservation.

If one or two accounts are lost because--the agency will tell the outlet's media rep--because "my client just believes you people have gone way to far to the left..." the p.d. or n.d. knows his/her neck is on the block.

4. well, that doesn't make sense.
If we truly are their audience then why are they not gearing their programming toward us?

Whatever happened to "It's all about the benjamins"?

This is like the 'Timberland' clothing line trying to distance itself from rap music when it got popularized by rap and became the clothing and shoes of african-american males. They actually put out a release saying they did not court this demographic.

9. It's Been About The Benjamins...Repugnicans Spend More
on the advertisers who spend the big bucks on MSGOP, CNNservative and Faux. Take a look...office supplies, investment houses, mortgage lenders, automobiles, airlines...big ticket stuff.

Remember all these networks are tentacles of longer arms...and all part of one large corporate money plan. For advertiser they think the younger viewers are on Cartoon Network or MTV or Comedy Central while the older folks are on CNNservative, Faux, et al and that's how they buy.

Keep in mind television and radio was hit hard by the Bunnypants recession. In 1999 they had a lot of big money rolling in from the dot coms and other young start-ups...then the bottom dropped out and they got really burned. I tend to believe the shift right at CNNservative began at this point as the network started to go after the advertisers who wanted the older, Conservative audience.

Just in time productions, to save Bush's bacon....

Could wide spread media reform be part of the platform, but the part
not blared to the four winds?

Please make it so... fairness returns... after the landslide

16. Did they connect the recent capture of Al Qaeda with the TNR article
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 01:14 AM by japanduh
There was a New Republic article not long ago that alleged that Bush was pushing the Pakistanis hard to come out with the capture of Osama Bin Laden or other high-ranking Al-Qaeda operative during the Dem Convention.

Article here: http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=20040719&s=aaj071904

Josh has been wishing upon the stars that someone, somewhere in media-whore-land would make the connection.

17. Maybe he's referring to the
al-Queda operative captured story that he talks about a few entries below that, who knows?

I am very curious now, though.

Thanks for linking to that. I forget to check in on him sometimes.
