Barack Obama - Will he be our first president of color?
http://www2.obamaforillinois.com/splash.php

I think he will become the rising star of not only the Democratic Party, but of Washington itself when he gets elected in Nov. Almost everyone who heard Obama speak during the convention was impressed to say the least. However, remember Rep. Ford out of Tenn. was the up & coming star 4 years ago and now he seems to have lost that attention. I personally think Obama has everything it takes to rise to the highest office in the land. Time can only tell.

1. Perhaps
Which is why the Right will work so hard to tear him down.

5. Exactly
some Fox news guy interviewed him on the floor Monday night. His first question was not about his thoughts of the convention, or his predictions for the election, or even about any issues facing our nation today. The reporter (and I use that term very loosely) asked him to respond to a quote of his 4 (or 8) years ago and if he still believed the same thing was true today. Sorry, I do not remember the topic. I was a bit angry at the time.

11. I've been thinking the exact same thing...
I'd heard before that Obama was good, but this was my first time hearing him. Wow. That guy is amazing.

He's also exactly the sort of candidate you'd want for the first black president. He's got an incredible story, and an incredible background. He's young and has plenty of time to build a great record in the Senate. He's charismatic and a brilliant speaker. He doesn't have some of the strikes against him that people like Al Sharpton do in terms of racial division. Don't get me wrong, I like Al, but he could never be President, too much baggage. What I'm saying is that Obama could be a candidate for everybody, not one who's seen as just for blacks.

4. He will be.
I feel it in my bones. I wanted to vote for him right away the minute I heard the speech! I emailed all my Illinois friends and told them they better vote for this man because they are stupid if they don't. He was on fire. He gave me the first glimmer of hope for the first time in a long time. A true politician is one who can make people feel united and give hope even when things aren't so rosy. If someone gives you a vision and inspires you, they can move mountains. He did just that.

6. I think he may well be president one day
Harold Ford Jr. and Artur Davis show a lot of promise too.

But white is a color too. :P

7. I was listening to the radio briefly before I decicded to turn it off
Either Ann Cultur or Laura Ingrahm was saying Obama's speech was some what of an imitation of I have a dream.

8. Don't count Harold Ford out of it
I don't think his star has dimmed much at all. He just hasn't had an opportunity to get the spotlight that Obama got. That being said, I suspect that Ford & Obama will be the contenders for the first president of color. Which one will make it, I think we're a long way from knowing. But I'll be surprised if it's not one of them. Obama was FANTASTIC but Harold Ford has the same power, I think.

17. I doubt it.
The African American community has many competent and intelligent people. However, I believe it will be a long time before an African American will become president. The racists would come out of the woodwork to defeat a black candidate. We will probably see a white woman as president first. I will always remember the reaction of Gary Bauer and others when it was thought that Powell might run for president. They did not appear pleased.
