How can these people be so horrid? They won't believe the stories of the NG who served when Bush was AWOL but they would rather believe the stories of folks who were NOT in the boat with Kerry.

1. They HAVE to make themselves believe it.
To have a genuine hero standing against a schlemiel like Shrub brings out the worst in them.

2. Well, don't worry ...
We don't have to convince the morans like him in order to win. He's no doubt already made up his mind. It's the middle, not the far right, who will choose the next president--and after last night, I have no doubt we'll all be able to put 2000 behind us. :)

4. There are still a lot of vets who genuinly hate Kerry
Some of his testimony in the 70s was extremely harsh (even if he condemned himself in the process) and a lot of vets still resent him. I think he has been able to insulate himself somewhat from that critique. But it's not going to be difficult at all to find veterans to trash him.

5. It was the doubt
of one or more crew members of Bush I that really kept him from playing up his record too much. The people in the command honor the dead more than the success of their officer in politics. There were some real questions about Bush senior bailing out on his crewman.

They keep acting true to form and enabling Kerry to pound Bush with the contrast. The opening line in Kerry's acceptance speech was a complete gift from the absurd bile of slurs that included hiding behind GOP women,
dissing all veterans and the wounded and the heroes, those who opposed the war(so why didn't the chickenhawk WH fight?).

Lies washing up futilely against the rock of truth. Lots of spray to demonstrate the rocks power.

Keep it up GOP. The best you can do is your worst.

The record has voided all their legitimacy.
