What moved me about the convention. Seeing some rainbow flags on the floor
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 07:57 AM by terrya
Gay people. At a political convention.

African-Americans. Hispanics. Asians. Women. A lot of words about how diverse the Democratic Party is...but, boy oh boy. The pictures of the people on the floor....those said all you need to know about diversity.

The Democratic Party IS America. Last night, I got a lump in my throat seeing Kerry's speech, Max Cleland....and all of America, on the convention floor.

I have never been more proud to be a Democrat. Never.

1. I found
myself standing up & cheering!

I'm proud to be a ACLU card-carrying, bleeding heart LIBERAL Democrat!

2. I, too, was moved ...
to see the diversity in our delegates. I absolutely love that so many people of diverse backgrounds can rise to power in the Democratic Party.

3. It'll be interesting to see
if there are any rainbow flags at the RNC.

6. LOL - not likely.
Aren't they having that bigot Jerry Falwell on stage? Blech. Why would ANY gay person in their right mind want to be there?

4. Oh, and it's too bad
more of the public doesn't think gay marriage should be legal. You know Kerry wants to legalize it, but can't.

7. We'll certainly be able to talk to him about it.
I fully expect that the gay community will have access to the Kerry White House. The gay community will deliver for Kerry in November. And he'll appreciate it.

5. It was a truly amazing sight.
After that, it seems impossible to me that the Dems could ever be misconstrued as a "divisive" force. There were people from all walks of life there - men and women, youth and elderly, gay and straight, rich and poor, and all of the skin colors/ethnic backgrounds that one could imagine. I have to admit that I was still harboring a little resentment that Kerry got the nomination (I'm still a Dean fan :)), but after his speech last night I really gained a lot of respect for him. He's going to make a fine President (provided that the funny business with the voting is kept to a minimum this year, of course).

8. Did you catch Barney Frank, Terry?
"When Ralph Nader says there's no difference between Republicans and Democrats, he devalues the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual and trandsgendered people everywhere."

(paraphrased, since it wasn't in his "official" remarks and I can't find a full transcript online -- he said it more eloquently)

9. No...I wish I had. He's absolutely right.
There will be gay people who will vote for Bush. For purely economic reasons (there are rich gay people who like Bush's tax cuts). But those people are traitors to this community, IMO.
