"I am John Kerry and I'm Reporting for Duty"
What a stroke of genius. I thought at first he was going to come off with the sound bite from An american President and in a way he did but in a very dynamic way. Kerry is going to make a fine President and I believe America will start the healing process almost immediately. That sound bite will get a lot of play as well it should. It was a direct shot at Bush* who did not report for duty yet was very positive.

3. Listening to it again on C-Span.org
Did I dream it? Was it really as good as I thought it was? I have to make sure...

Even Jon Stewart has been poking fun at Kerry's unemotional, flat monotone. Not only was it as if it had never even existed, I truly didn't realize 45 minutes had gone by!

6. Ok, maybe it played better in different parts of the country, but...
... I thought that was one of the worst (corny) lines he could have come up with. Even worse than the way he told the "I was born in the west wing" story. He hit a home run for inspriation, issues, attack dog, and likeability.

But he struck out swinging with those two lines, IMO.

Just trying to be honest.

7. Dear Honest
Am being honest too....it was an electrifying moment, I literally jumped out of my chair, realizing it was a combination of saluting America and digging at Bush...absolutely brilliant!

9. As someone who went to Viet Nam and returned to be despised
villified and for the most part bitter, Kerry's salute was, for me, akin to to running across an old army buddy who I thought had been KIA.

I can see where it would seem pretty corny to those who have not shared the experience, so I can understand your reaction.

It is a great comfort to me to know that the next true president of the United States knows the reality of combat.

10. You were never despised by me
Those were tough days and many things were said and done that reflect badly on many of us who were there. That is what they are trying to lay on Kerry as well. I also am a Vietnam Vet and I protested the war after my return. I spent more than one tour so had enough time to really get a fair picture of what was happening there. I felt like some of us behaved in a manner that I considered repugnant but most only did what they were told. A lot of GIs were not angels to put it mildly. I protested their acts and the wisdom of the war and the mindset that allowed GIs to commit barbaric acts.

11. Chu hoi brother,
Your's was the more responsible action. I went to ground and tried to be inconspicuous. There is more upon which we agree than otherwise I think.
