Cheney, whose approval numbers are terrible, hasn't been on the home page of Bush's campaign website since I started checking weeks ago and I see story after story in the news pumping up Powell. Powell's list of medals on the surface is impressive: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_Powell

Also, I did a search for Cheney on the campaign website and practically all of the hits were just Bush-Cheney campaign references and not really anything about Cheney.

I know that Powell is just a White House lawn jockey now but to many Americans he is the most respected and admired figure in the Bush administration. After last night, it seems like the only way the BFEE could possibly counter Kerry's impressive military credentials and heroism is with Powell as the VP candidate.

What are the best links for the truth about Powell? Isn't he the worst Secretary of State we have ever had?

1. Never Happen..
Colin Powell got tired of the Shurb long ago.. he's sticking around now to try and keep Rumsfart and Wolfie from going absolutely insane. He's gone after this term one way or another.

4. Bill Maher floated that theory
Said that Powell is the only sane higher-up person in the administration, and is frustrated. He's staying on to protect the U.S. from the likes of Rummy, Cheney and Ashcroft.

8. i've posted the exact same theory many times here
when he said "this is bullshit" about the Iraq report, my sense is that he meant the whole going to war with Iraq thing is bullshit

2. Heh - even those of us who used to like Colin -
Think Bush ripped out his spine and uses him as his own personal whipping boy. I don't think he's going to be put on the ticket.

9. Colin wouldn't do it, neither would McCain.
Just look at Colin's face in the recent months. He wants OUT OF THERE! McCain is campaigning for shrub because he is a Pub and wants to preserve his position and that of his party. There is no love lost between him and shrub! I don't think he would be willing to work that close with him everyday.

The only ones I can think of who might take the VP slot might be Rudy, or Pitacki because of their own ambition, but the Pubs wouldn't want them because of policy differences. Frist might, but I don't think he has much popularity.

Naw, he'll keep Cheney and they'll lose together.

11. You could see it in F-9/11
Powell looked sincerely pained to parrot the bullshit the Bush administration gave him to say. I'm sure some years down the line he'll give a nice interview on how much he couldn't stand those guys, chicken hawks all.

10. I don't think Poppy would go for it.
Just the idea brings to mind a line Don Ameche spoke in Trading Places:

"Do you honestly think I'd want a nigger running our family's business?"

12. Personally
I feel sorry for Powell. Just from what I've seen and read, it really seems like he's been made the administration's fall guy. I don't know if it has any basis in racism, but I do think it's mainly due to the fact that he's too liberal for the conservatives and too conservative for the liberals. Everybody hates this dude.

They'll never make him veep of Bu$hCo though. WAY too much of Bush's "base" doesn't particularly care for anyone with a darker skin tone than they have, and even the rethugs have to be smart enough to know that this would be political suicide at this point in time. They've got too much riding on the Falwells and Limbaughs to alienate the only people they can 100% count on.

That said, if Powell ever ran for president I would give serious consideration voting for him. The man's steady as a rock.

I think he's just a "stealth" BFEE operative.
