How many of us have never contributed to a presidential campaign
before this one?

My very first contribution was to Howard Dean last fall. Later, I contributed to Wesley Clark and then, of course, to John Dean. Not much money by many standards but every little bit helps.

How about you?

no I am 17 now but I was 13 then, so yes Kucinich and Kerry are the first candiates to receive my backing in money.

3. How great that you started so young!
I'm 48! Look how long it took me! We never felt like we could afford it but after the election, we felt like we couldn't afford NOT to!

7. I am far from the youngest here, amazes me to see people younger and
younger by the day. I wasnt that in to it in 2000, did campaign for Gore in the mock election which he lost sadly, and was defending him thorugh out the whole Florida ordeal.

2. my first
This was my first time making a contribution to any political candidate.

I've cared before, but never THIS much. I voted, but to give money...it's a big decision in a Bush economy.

4. This is the first year I've felt compelled to donate.
It gave me a good sense of belonging and civic spirit to aid in reclaiming our country from the fanatics.

Something HAD to be done, this year.

First Dean, then Kerry. Also a bunch of down-ballot races.

8. My first,
and I'm 48. Credit Howard Dean for getting a lot of us to contribute - even though he lost, his campaign showed we could still make a difference. Also, * managed to energize the base - the Dem base, that is.

9. This was the first time for me,
this election truly is the most important one of my years.

My only regret about donating to Kerry was that I donated all I could afford in one lump sum, and I wrote and sent the check before DU had announced their fund drive for Kerry that closed yesterday.

I've heard that some people like to donate a few dollars every month.

11. I'm 52 and a lifelong Democrat.
This is the first time I have sent any money to a campaign. I have been a Kerry supporter since before he declared in S.C.. Even though I have not worked in more than a year and my SO's income has dropped more than 50%, we still felt compelled to send the Kerry campaign a measly fifty bucks, and daily wish it could have been more.

Woof

13. I have donated before
but this year I gave until it hurt. My husband and I had a meeting, looked at our finances and decided what we could afford. Then gave it all in one lump sum.

I found ways to give a few extra $$$'s here and there. For birthdays of left leaning friends and family, I made a donation in their name to Kerry. I would send a card along that said, "I knew what you really wanted was a new president, so a donation has been made in your name to the Kerry 2004 campaign." I am expect some serious thank you cards in November. I mean how many people get a president for their birthday?

14. Yep...
This is definitely the first time I have EVER donated to a presidential campaign. I would have donated to Clinton, but he overwhelmingly had the election both times.

15. 37, but never donated until this year...
My daughter was born last February and I looked at her and said I can't let her grow up in an America that suffers through another 4 years of George W. Bush.

So, I found DU less than a year ago, got informed, and have donated to Kerry, the DNC, MoveOn.org and DU since.

Not a lot of donations, but $20-25 here & there. It's all I can afford.

and it's been difficult to donate, what with an unemployed spouse. But I did donate to Dean first and donated to Kerry a couple of months ago.

19. My husband and I "sat around our kitchen table"
and said "enough is enough" and for the first time in our lives (I'm 45 and he's 61)we donated. We have donated to Kerry ever since Iowa because even then, when he was almost a "dead man walking" we both knew he has what it takes to kick bush-boy's butt back to Crawford.

22. Donated to the Rainbow Coalition in the 80s--
--but never participated directly in organizing. This year I've given the spending limit to Kucinich, and started donating to Kerry after that. I became a PCO and attended my first caucus as well.

23. I made about seven Howard Dean contributions in 2003
Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 01:32 AM by Moonbeam_Starlight
and have made three Kerry contributions just in the last six weeks! I am MAJORLY STOKED, DUDE! Can you tell? LOL!

Before Dean and 2003, never.

Edited to add I am also now giving financial donations to a Dem running in a state race. I really really want/need her to win. We all do in this district, so I am giving until it hurts. And volunteering my time, too. Saturdays.

24. First Presidential campaign
I've conributed to a couple of family friends and other groups. But John Kerry is the first Presidential candidate I've ever contributed to or volunteered for. He's the first my husband has paid alot of attention to and certainly the first political ANYTHING where he said "We need to give some more money". The only candidate he ever cared a hoot about before was Ross Perot!

Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 01:49 AM by InkAddict
I've become a crazed citizen, writing checks I can't afford, phoning persons I've never met, walking up to strange doorways with voter registration/volunteer cards. HOPE IS ON ITS WAY; HELP IS ON ITS WAY! It better be; some one's got to defend our Constitution!

LURKER NO MORE!

27. Lot's of contributions to local campaigns
but this is the first time to a presidential campaign that I can remember. I gave to Wesley Clark (and gave and gave and gave) and don't regret a penny as I see his stock rising in the Democratic Party and also have given to Kerry--thanks to seeing the DU link over and over and over.
