How dangerous would the GOP be with a slightly less scary front man?

Zeus willing and we win this election and kick Dick and Bush to the curb. But I keep thinking what a dangerous ledge this country is on and continues to be on. What if Bush weren't so obviously a messed up stooge? What if someone with real propaganda savvy, not the we-are-told-he-has-savvy of Karl Rove, were in charge? What if they had someone with real, powerful charisma, instead of a smirking pinhead?

The GOP and the media (which, let's face it, really really wants to have a monarchy here - they've all but crowned Dumbya king) have to go slowly - they have to raise the temperature on us frogs slowly so that we never notice we are being boiled alive.

The only problem this administration faces/faced, in my opinion, is that they were too greedy, too rapacious, too fast, too obvious. But they could have done a lot of structural damage and gone completely under the radar. They've already got the media and most big business completely on their side. It's just a matter of time.

If we win in November, we will have dodged a bullet, for a little while. But the ruthless GOP and their media cheerleaders will not be denied from having another potential monarch - what if their next candidate is not obviously such a twit? We could be in real trouble.

It just highlights the need for the Fairness Doctrine, I guess. Any chance Kerry will re-instate it? Can he do that on his own, through control of the FCC commissioners, or does Congress have to be involved?
