Thank you Denis Kucinich and "Kucinich-ites"
Obviously a firm determined principled stand moved the rhetoric of our candidate in the right direction. You who supported DK until the end---yeah, you JohnKleeb and friends!---are admirable people. I always have believed that but I saw your efforts become manifest in that acceptance speech. It would not have been as strong without your strength in standing for what was right but "not practical" and you made them (and us) listen.

Give your selves a hand. I certainly did when I heard it.

1. it's not over yet....
Come January we'll be protesting Kerry's war instead of Bush's. We need to remember this-- getting the neocon monsters out of the White House is only the first step. We need to demand a sea change in American politics that goes far beyond changing suits in the oval office. But changing suits is at least a good first step.

2. I'll pass your sentiments on to my delegate friend when she returns
I'm sure she'll appreciate hearing that. I know the pressure they were getting was very hard to stand up to.

I'm also pretty sure she had a personal hand in some of the wording in Dennis' speech, and she has a biiiig hug coming from me for that!

Hurrah for all the Kucitizens!

4. Thank her so much for me.
It made me so proud that some delegates hung tough and cast their votes for Kucinich.

5. I sure will! I know they were really stressed, with all the pressure
put on them, and she will appreciate your pat on the back for her!

I can't even imagine what they were going through! I'm really glad they stuck together, and I'm wondering how the delegates of different states coordinated with each other.

Hopefully I'll have some updates for you. :)

8. I truely believe that
without the Kucinich delegation, Kerry's speech would not have been as definite about the middle class squeeze and the Cheney pollution. Not that Kerry doesn't believe in these issues, but that he usually tries not to anger the corporates in his political speeches. We needed to hear Kerry say these things.

6. Boy Mayor
I grew up in Clevo in the 70's when Dennis was the boy mayor, and his fights w/ George Forbes were legendary. I even met him at Tony's Diner on 117th street one morning; he was very cool with me. After the default I though his career was over, but I'm glad I was wrong.

13. You do not like Kucinich
Why are you posting your disdain in a thread for people who are thanking Kucinich for his service?

It appears you like to argue for the argument's sake. Poking fun and spoiling their thanks to a public servant is so very sad.

14. When will you...
Be signing up for service with the IDF?

Actually it's folks like you that prevent peace in this world by denying such ideas as that of a Department of Peace.

From where I stand it would be vastly better to give the ENTIRE military budget of the world to such entities as the Peace Corps as well as DK's Department of Peace.

30. RowWellandLive, I was a Clarkie! Now I support Kerry 100%, but
I have always respected each of the candidates. Each one has brought good ideas to the Democratic table, that includes DK.

We are going to have to have some innovative thinking in order to undue all that has been done by this administration. Kerry's strength will come from taking the best ideas from all of the candidates, which represents our very diverse party. It will be like throwing them all into a melting pot, and using them to come up with a palatable blend for all.

So you think DK's Dept. of Peace is wacko, OK, you have your opinion. Maybe some of DK's ideas can be incorporated into the Secretary of State's policy's. God knows that we are going to have our work cut out for us on the diplomatic front, and you can not deny that.

It is the very diverse ideas of this party that is going to be our best tool in regaining the respect of the rest of the world once again.

Have you ever been outside of US borders, if not, you will find that Europeans, Middle Eastern and Asian cultures all are very diverse in their thinking and beliefs. That is why I welcome "Wacky Dennis", John Dean, Wes Clark, Al Sharpton, Mosely Braun, and all the others to share their ideas.

Your callous remarks on this thread are not the appropriate place to voice them. So instead of hijacking a congratulatory Kuchinick thread, why don't you just start a "I hate Kuchinick" thread. That is unless you just want to pick a fight and cause disruption among DU'ers. Don't you think we get enough of that from freeper trolls?

So whats your agenda, see you on your I hate Kuchinick thread, where I am sure you will find a very diverse response to your post!

23. Where I Stand.
Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 05:05 AM by Ani Yun Wiya
Is 1000% ANTI-WAR.
I don't care which war or what reason.

Where I stand, WAR (and any other euphemism for it) is the greatest crime against humanity.

Where I stand is that all 6 billion or so of us should vote on the matter in a global vote.

The design, manufacture, possesion and sale of that material which makes wars possible should be known as a criminal act.

The gathering of standing armies whose sole purpose is to cause murder, rapine and mayhem should be known as a criminal act.

The electing, selecting or "arising" of ANY leader who would for ANY reason cause or allow this should be known as a criminal act.

And don't hand me any BS about "good wars".

25. Why?
Why does that small minority want to live among those people it labels "enemies"?

And that little label is not one of recent vintage either.

Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 03:42 AM by wuushew
Have you seen his policy stances? Why do you so quickly dimiss his viewpoints? People like Kucinich are the only thing keeping the party from continuing its corporate and ideological merger with the GOP. His track record looks pretty good to me...no on Patriot Act, No on IRW, etc. By the way Kerry sucks on Israeli/American relations. That "fence" needs to come down now.

27. Anyways...
I am happy that the Kucinich delegates held their ground. Kerry's nomination is important, but not the beginning of the next coronation. We have a boy king in the White House now. By casting those votes for Kucinich they stayed true to the Democratic principle. Is this party supposed to toe the line blindly, too?

Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 06:05 AM by hippywife
for the integrity and heart of a true public servant, the goals he gave us to aim for--reasons he gave us to support him. It was never solely about just beating Bush, but returning America to the people.

He is truly the epitome of what the Dem party used to be and hopefully will be again someday.

That Dennis was forced to turn over his delegates for 7 minutes alone is ridiculous, and the time slot they gave him was disrespectful. Those delegates have my sincere thanks.

34. We're not done yet.
While I'm fully and firmly behind putting Kerry in the WH at this point, we have a long way to go. First step for me is a letter of thanks to Dennis.

The next step is to work on some issues that need some serious work. And there are organized groups of people already doing so.

35. I didn't see any other candidate out in the streets, calming a
potentially explosive situation between some protesters and some over-zealous police. That could have blown up so huge that the news of it would have taken over the airways and taken attention from the big speeches.

It was DENNIS KUCINICH, *not* any of the other DEMs who was out there, listening and speaking with the protesters, assuring them that he understood them, and supported them, and would continue to stand with them, and fight for them.

Yet, it's DENNIS KUCINICH who is slammed as a "Keebler elf", a loony fanatic for his Dept of Peace, his own personal business of being a vegan is a laughing matter to DEMs who want to marginalize a Democrat who is more interested in promoting the good of the whole country and it's citizens than in his own power and status.

It's enough to make a person want to just GIVE UP.
