Democrats launch Marathon Campaign tour.
As president, Kerry says, he would ‘never mislead’ voters

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry and running mate John Edwards plunged into the general election Friday, embarking on a rock-star style coast-to-coast 21-state tour aimed at convincing millions of undecided voters he will stand up for the American people both at home and abroad.

Kerry “reported for duty” Thursday night during his acceptance speech inside the FleetCenter in Boston and pledged to “restore trust and credibility to the White House.” Promising to defeat terrorism wherever and whenever needed, Kerry also said he would “never mislead us into war,” pounding the lectern for emphasis.

He showed a tough tone again Friday on the campaign trail, telling The Associated Press he would put Osama bin Laden on trial in U.S. courts rather than an international tribunal to ensure the “fastest, surest route” to a murder conviction if the terrorist mastermind is captured while he is president.

“I want him tried for murder in New York City, and in Virginia and in Pennsylvania,” where planes hijacked by al-Qaida operatives crashed Sept. 11, 2001, Kerry said in his first interview as the Democratic nominee.
