I was solicited by a Bush volunteer today. |
|
Seriously. I checked the caller ID, and it said it was a cell phone, so I answered. What do you know, a Bush/Cheney volunteer was on the line (probably because my mother's boyfriend - who sometimes appears on CNBC, by the way - used to donate to Bush, before he got sick and tired of Bush's lies and decided to support Kerry).
Me: "Hello?"
Bush volunteer: "This is so-and-so from the Bush/Cheney campaign. Can the president count on your support in this election?"
Me: "The 'president' can count on me...to vote for John Kerry, thank you."
I then hung up the phone.

And I got an invitation to the President's Dinner and a "signed" print of him and Laura, with the option of schilling out money to get a framed copy.
My dad (also a Dem) is still reciveing mail from the GOP probably adressed to my grandfather, who was a Republican, before he died...in 1976.

4. If I might make a suggestion... |
|
As satisfying as that surely felt, I would like to suggest that we take a different tack if we get such calls.
They are trying to call as many people as possible. Rather than blowing them off, it's a much better tactic, in my opinion, to try to keep them on the line as long as possible, in order to slow their outreach to other voters.

9. I agree with you. But sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. |
|
You got to admit it: It's torture talking to a Republican, sometimes.

5. I did a similar thing once... |
|
to a Republican campaigner who was trying to reach my (former) boss to ask for her support in the election. I knew she couldn't stand the person running.
They asked, "Can we count on her support to vote for _____ in the upcoming election."
I responded, "Don't you wish!?"
(that Republican lost in a landslide by the way)

6. That's the second time... |
|
today something's been spewed on my computer monitor! "Soliciting"! Goodness...perhaps the * campaigners should try soliciting the media? Oh, wait; I forgot. The media are already whores.
Thanks for the chuckle, and for the great reply (to the volunteer).

13. I'd have some fun with them |
|
Play indecisive and give them a case of the "yeah-buts." Everything they'd say about Bush*Co I'd go "yeah, but" : what about outsourcing? What's the exit strategy from Iraq? Where's this deficit going? Why do so few at the top get all the tax breaks? What about Dubya's TANG service? Why does he look so goofy and slur his words?" I think by then they'd hang up on me.

...and now I have no health insurance. My meds cost about $3000 a month and I can't afford them, so I was going to drive to Canada to get them cheaper, you know? Then when I thought of how much GAS that would take, oh my! Plus our President has outlawed importing drugs from Canada, do you know why? Are they unsafe? Do you think they are? Hello????? Hello??????......"

20. definitely, talk to them |
|
Ask if they are paid staff or volunteers.
If volunteers, tell them you feel very sorry for them, that they would actually volunteer to help this crew of thieves and killers, who are stealing everything that isn't nailed down.
If they are young, take it seriously. Try to turn them, at least direct them to sites.
And use up their time...
