2. I like the following comments from the analysis:... |
|
"Mr. Bush has also shown weakness in what is considered to be his best region, the South. While Kerry’s choice of Senator John Edwards gives him his biggest boost, his economic populism and courting of veterans are also key in his eroding of Mr. Bush’s support. Not only has Kerry now come to a tie with Bush in favorability in the South (55% for both), the Kerry-Edwards ticket has pulled ahead, 48% to 46% in the South. President Bush’s job performance is down to only 44% in the South, and only 43% of Southerners think the country is headed in the right direction.
Mr. Kerry is also performing well in Blue states, among Young voters and among Single voters. In the Blue states, Mr. Kerry is winning 50% to 38%, while in the Red States, Mr. Bush is only winning 48% to 46%. Among Single voters, Mr. Kerry is winning huge by a total of 69% to 19%. And among young voters – 18-29 year olds – a group Al Gore only won by 2 points in 2000, Kerry is winning in a landslide, 53% to 33%.
There are three factors contributing to Senator Kerry’s lead in the electorate; first is President Bush’s eroding base, second is his failure in outreach to swing groups and base Democratic constituencies, and third is Mr. Kerry’s strengthening of his base."
Here's to continued success by Kerry and Edwards!

3. Kerry Holding His Base |
|
The election will probably turn on who the voters think can better handle America's problems. That's Kerry, not Bush. Zogby finds that people think Bush is likeable but incompetent. He lacks gravitas - and Kerry doesn't.
The difference may end up that Kerry is seen as a serious guy, and Bush is a clown.

" stealing twice as many (8% to 4%) of Mr. Bush voters in 2000 than Bush is stealing of Gore voters in 2000."
Who the hell are these people that voted for Gore and will now be voting for Bush. I don't care that it's a small number. Who are they and what it heaven's name are they thinking?

From my four years of political studying...they were voting for bushead because of the "values" thing..didn't want to be associated with Clinton via Gore and now they've seen the Errors of their ways!
How'd I do?}(

I was wondering about the people who voted for Gore and are now planning to vote for Bush. That's what I don't get.
The fear thing, as carpediem mentioned, might be it. Still, it just floors me.

22. In the last two years I've asked more people than I can count |
|
who they voted for in 2000 and who they are planning to vote for this year, if they know (only people open to answering those questions!) and I have not found a single person who voted for Gore in 2000 who wants to vote for bush this time. That's out of maybe 200-250 people.
On the other hand, I've found plenty who voted for bush last time and are voting for Kerry this time.
I even saw a bumper sticker:
MY BAD! Voted for Bush in 2000! Won't let it happen again!
Hee hee.

Are they the voters "being motivated by fear" that were discussed in that study on CNN?
I can think of NO reason to switch from having voted for Gore to voting for *!

Like most convinceable voters, they are pretty dumb, from my experience. I have listened to a few of them on TV and radio. They claim to have seen the light since GW Bush was so courageous after Sept 11, and they think he's the greatest. In the end, I think they will be back.

Let's wait for a while and see what happens after the GOP Convention. I don't see how Shrub can top the Kerry Veterans. But we shall see.
Note: if we win in a landslide, I think history will not be kind to GW Bush. I sure hope that's how it works out in the end. Because he's been a BAD DON from the start.

If Kerry is leading 48-46 in the South, doesn't Florida account for much of this?

24. I've been asking and wondering about the numbers in the South |
|
the Zogby poll puts Kerry ahead slightly in the South, which I really want to be true, but he isn't leading in any southern state as far as I know ... he's down in NC, SC, GA, LA, AL, MS, and he's evenish to down in FL, AR, and TN according to the latest state polls I've seen ... clearly he can't be ahead in the South without leading a single Southern state, so I'm a bit skeptical about those numbers ... the good news though is that if he wins even just AR and TN, Kerry's well on his way to becoming President and they both look very possible

Remember, right now we should be seeing the very best news of the campaign period. We just came off a very successful Democratic convention. The fires are burning beneath the right-wing attack machine, and we should expect an assault from all directions (RNC, right-wing media, bully pulpit, and so on).

23. God I've been saying this for MONTHS |
|
seriously. I'm not trying to say I have a crystal ball or anything, but I've been sensing bush has been losing his base while Kerry is inching forward for quite some time.
Just look at all the ABB voters as long as two years ago. Just waiting to know who they could vote for AGAINST bush and a lot of those people voted for bush in 2000!
All I'm seeing and have been seeing is bush bleeding votes. I didn't see how he could possibly come out well in this election.
That being said, I'm still getting busy registering voters and working hard, even in this red (????) state.

I think Kerry could attract 60% of young voters (18-25) and a good chuck of folks who do not usually vote.

to fight the other wars in his next 4 year plan.
Kerry's going to get at least 60% of the NextGeners.
