A local vet I know, a McCain supporter who voted for Bush |
|
in the general election, called me tonight to mobilize me into pro-Kerry action. He made it clear he's not a Democrat, but that Kerry snagged him with the "Band of Brothers" theme. "I looked into his eyes when he was speaking, and he still has the thousand-yard stare," said the vet. I told him to count me in, of course.
The remarkable thing is that this guy previously (back in the primaries) emailed me the Kerry/Fonda photo, so I was pretty shocked to hear him on the phone saying "We've got to do it for Kerry. I need a Commander in Chief that I can trust before I die."
It was Kerry's speech that did it for him.
So for anybody who doesn't think that speech was effective, I humbly submit this story.

5. Then why in the Hell does McCain kiss Bush' butt |
|
the way he does? I had respect for McCain, but not anymore - he's had more than his fair share of koolaid.

6. Because he is a Republican. |

Party loyalty is hard to explain to someone who doesn't feel it, but it is real. Ask Joe Lieberman.

8. I dont know whats going on with him |
|
i was pretty much out of the party even when i volunteered for him, i started losing my faith in them when Clinton got elected, they were just too crazed. Plus i'm pro-choice and i have no problem with gay marriage so the gop didn't work for me anymore or alot of other moderates. I think McCain is up to something, i dunno what but i know he can't stand Bush and many of his people feel the same and wont do anything to help him get elected. I'm in wait and see mode for now.

re: Kerry's 1000 yard stare, I remember when he won in Iowa and the confetti canons went off, JK ducked and flinched. That's when I knew he had seen the elephant for real

3. And it is truly beautiful |

that Kerry himself convinced him, and that your friend did not let himself be talked out of his instincts by the mediawhores or right wing radio.:toast:

4. What does the "thousand-yard stare" signify, she said, never having |
|
been in the military...
However, I don't have to understand the meaning of that phrase to recognize a WUNNNNNNNNderful story!

7. It's the look that a combat vet gets from having seen and experienced... |
|
...war up close and personal. It's almost like a movie camera was running behind their eyes and they're reliving scenes they hoped they would never remember.
A lot of folks are coming back from the Middle East with that look.

10. Wonderful. Can't hear too many of these stories. |
|
Last night after the speech, when the pundits started blathering about how Kerry spoke too fast or some such crap, I had a few moments of doubt that he was as good as I thought he was. But the speech is changing people vote! That is so exciting.
