The great debates that will never happen...
... what do you guys think will be the official reason for not having the presidential debates?

I'm leaning towards them upping the alert status and a bogus terraist threat, or continuing to drum up reasons to be out of the country on bizness...

at any rate, BushCo has to realize by now that they can't get away with the chimp in a debate. That has to never happen...the boy king is unravelling right before our very eyes....major decomposition behind the scenes. They CAN"T let him debate.
they have to know that would be a disaster.

what I envison is their insistence on having the VEEP debates first, because they're arrogant enough to think f-you cheney would have a chance against edwards...and THEN they'll find an excuse to never have the presidential debates.

1. Ha, Bushco will insist on debates because he's loosing in polls
But then I'm a "the glass is half full" Democrat.

2. There will be a debate

And the chimp will perform up to Raygun's standards and the press will go wild. Even though Raygun was made to look like a fool in his second-term debates, he prevailed in the mudia. So presidential! Such a leader!! Blah blah.

3. Bush told Barbara Walters 6 months ago that he'd be too busy
presidenting to do more than one debate. He's gotta do one or he'll be called out as the chicken coward that he is.

I am thinking that he won't be around for the acceptance speech, though. It will be videotaped so it can be packaged into a semi-intelligent statement.

5. There is NO WAY
that there will not be at least one debate - even the media couldn't spin that shit if he didn't debate. And Cheney will have to debate Edwards. I think there will be one of each and maybe two presidential - no way there will be three like last time

6. There will Be a Debate
I don't think any modern day Presidential candidate can refuse to debate. The American people just assume that there will be debates.

8. I always thought this was ONE of the reasons to delay their convention
This was the first thing I thought of when I saw they were delaying their convention this year. It would give them the 'option' to opt out of the debates if in their little opportunistic minds it would at some point be better to not have Junior display his oratorical weenie.

But now that the timeframe for the debates is compressed into a smaller window, I wonder if they will use that as an excuse to argue for a debate 'format' that will somehow display Junior in a more positive light than he could ever possibly manage in a face-to-face series as has been the format in the past.

I think their objective may be to 'limit' the number and change the format so that fratfuck* can phone it in somehow.

10. There will be debates--sort of
Limited, I mean really limited, in format to suit Little Boot's debating skills (or lack thereof)and sadly, I don't think he'll do that bad, unless those reports of his diminishing mental capacity really are true.

The truth is that unless Bush starts foaming at the mouth and reciting "Jabberwocky" the press will fawn all over his performance.

Kerry's going to have to be very careful.
