Should I vote in Virginia or California?
I am an American who has lived outside of the US for all my life (and still does) bar 1 year in Virginia when I was 2 and 3 months in California in my 20's.

I want to register to vote for the first time and according to the instructions (or as far as I can understand them), I am meant to register the last place i lived.

Well that was California, but I don't know if three months in a university residence counts as a placed i 'lived' or if I should use my old Virginia address where I lived as a 2 year old.

Provided its legal, I would prefer to vote in whichever state 1 more Dem vote would make a difference. If California is going to go for Kerry in a landslide then I guess it would be better to vote in Virgina.

Does anyone know which state I should be voting in?

2. Vote in Virginia. It's in play.
California isn't going Republican. But Virginia MIGHT go Democratic.

Bush will not take CA.

5. I am not the only one who says it
You gotta be here to believe it, Kerry stickers are everywhere, I can tell you, I remember 2000 and I didnt see Gore-Lieberman everywhere. We can and will take Virginia out of the desert as Mark said, and if we dont go dem now, 2008 will for sure.

8. I assume your parents are in the military.
What is their home state? I would think you could use that as justification. If that is not the case, I don't know. College residency usually doesn't count as a resident of the state.

The State that would benefit the Dems more of course would be Va.

11. Virginia. Not just for Kerry, but for the Senate as well.
Allen is vulnerable, especially if a high-profile candidate runs against him (Mark Warner, Claudia Kennedy-especially if she gets a high intelligence post in a Kerry admin). John Warner won't be around forever either, and his replacement will likely be a closer race than any future California race.

While the governor's race in California is high-profile, it's democratic victories in places like Virginia, not California, that will stop the religious right in their tracks.

The future of Virginia could be democratic, but it's not by any means a certain outcome. California, except for the occasional celebrity who ascends to high office, will remain democratic.

13. She considered a run against Warner in 2002.
The story is that she backed away out of respect for Warner, but Warner would have been tough to unseat in 2002 even if she wanted to do it.

Yes, she lives in VA.

although he's a native Texan he last lived in Nevada.I recommended he vote as a Nevadan if possible.

17. Go with Nevada.
Nevada was a 20K margin in 2000, Texas 1.2M.

Texas will be democratic nationally someday, but someday looks to be at least a decade away.

18. What do the latest Virginia polls show?
It was a 5 point shrub lead a few weeks back but that may have changed. I see West Virginia had a seven point swing in JFKs favor.
