Repubs have trouble reconciling Ron Reagan with Ronald Reagan....
How could he speak in front of the Democrats and be supportive of them over us, they ask themselves? Why isn't he supporting George W Bush? Wouldn't Ronald Reagan support him? Maybe? Maybe not?

But just as Ronald Reagan left the Democratic Party, (he says they left him but what did he like about it when FDR was President?) Ron Reagan has left any hope behind that he could ever be one these types of "Republicans".

Because they are different from the Repubs of Eisenhower days and even the days of George Herbert Walker Bush, Dubya's father. These Repubs have adopted the Newt Gingrich and the radical Repub philosophy from 1994 and forward. They are not the same, although many Repubs still cling to their Party in denial or hope that they will someday change. Ron Reagan never had a chance to be one of these "Republicans".

who switched parties and ideologies because he felt the wind coming from that direction. also, democrats almost never elect hollywood actors. he probably wouldn't have won the primaries in the democratic race. he was probably already dementing somewhat at the time.

no offense intended to his son, who seems like a really good guy. but then, he'll never read this to be offended, and far worse is being said about *him* by the other side.

2. well, nancy snubbed them too
they were hoping against hope she'd appear at their convention to memorialize ronnie (and you know, to distract from today's real issues that do not reflect well on them) and she has flatly refused. as horrible as the stem cell research decision was, it has enhanced bush's well deserved reputation as a uniter, not only of the left, but of people who have a personal interest in such an important issue. the one issue voter thing can work both ways, i think they are blinded by the evangelicals who have convinced them they speak for a majority.
