Kate (Capt. Janeway) Mulgrew blast Bush at Trek convention just now!!!
Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 05:37 PM by Cannikin
I'm geeking in Las Vegas this weekend at the Star Trek convention.

Mulgrew began her speaking session by asking if she was addressing a partisan crowd. After encouraging cheers from the audience, she blasted the administration for its warped idea of family values. Then, after being asked about what she thought of herself as a roll model, she went on to talk about those who want to be roll models just for the sake of being one...'such as our current administration' she said.

Being a Trek convention, she of course addressed tolerance, diversity, and celebrating our differences instead of fearing them...again followed by another criticism of the Bush White House.

It was truly wonderful. The crowd (aside from one or two) cheered and applauded. Some even screaming 'Kerry for President'....and a few screaming 'Kate for president'.

She encouraged everyone to vote, and to try to sway anyone who was still on the fence.

She was originally invited to speak at the Democratic Convention, but due to a family emergency, she was forced to cancel.

Anyhooo......This is Cannikin, reporting live from the Geek convention at the Las Vegas Hilton.

4. Good for her.
But, dear lord, that woman's voice goes right through me! Arrrgh! But it's nice to know that she uses that hideous weapon for the forces of good. :)

10. I think her personality compensates for the voice.
Funny, too, because it's just two clicks away from Kathryn Hepburn's. Their demeanor and upbringing seem similar too.

But Hepburn's was more pleasing...

11. I agree with the Hepburn analogy.
But even a stellar personality can't compensate for that voice. I know it's unfair of me, but that's how it is. I feel the same way about saxophones, btw. :)

Those great Midwestern values! Most of us know a steaming pile of shit when we see it, like the pile that is currently residing in the white house.

LMAO- that killed me.

I saw her in an interview once and she was talking about how her voice bothered so many people when Voyager started. She seemed to have a good sense of humor about it.

She certainly does have a very... umm... distinctive voice. :p

Thanks for the report. I hope we can elect Kerry so we have a chance of making it to the Star Trek future Roddenberry envisioned.
