3. I like Vanguard
It's a coop, so when they make a profit, it goes back to you.

9. Oh, that's true. They do on AM 620 in Portland.
That did surprise me just a bit.

I only buy hot-dogs from the hot-dog stand in Portland that advertises on AAR. I don't much like hot-dogs (usually I prefer the hand-made sausages at "Good Dog/Bad Dog" near Broadway and Alder.

But I have to support a hot-dog stand that advertises on AAR.

7. My favorite IRA is at Vanguard
Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 05:54 PM by swag
www.vanguard.com

They have a great variety of low-cost Index funds, and a much better ownership structure than Schwab. I cannot recommend Vanguard highly enough.

T Rowe Price has excellent options for those who can only invest a little at a time ("sharebuilder" programs, I believe), and they also have low-cost index mutual funds. www.schwab.com

That having been said, I do have a Roth IRA at Schwab, and I like Schwab's service, integrity, and their selection of mutual funds. I dislike Chuck's politics and have let Schwab know as much. They were particularly responsive in one instance:

I logged into the Schwab site one morning many months ago, before Bush's disastrous tax package was passed, to find on the home page an item saying, "What the Bush tax-cut plan can do for you." I immediately fired off an email to them telling them to take that nonsense down and that I didn't want to see any partisan pro-deficit junk on their site when I logged in to manage my portfolio. I believe a few other people may have written in also, because within hours that nonsense was off of their site.

P.S. - if I bought anything aside from no-load mutual funds, I wouldn't trade at Schwab. I won't be giving Chuck any commission money.

10. Like I said above, I have my money market at Vanguard
Because I have so little invested in my IRA, I'm tempted to keep it as it is for now. Vanguard has been great, and they have awesome service. I don't like Schwab's politics either, but I also shop at Home Depot when I need to, and they're evil too. It's pretty hard to find non-evil large corporations nowadays, I think.

14. Fidelity
This is the person who owns 25% of the company. It is privately held, mainly by the Johnson family.

12. My niece works for them
She's definitely on our side. Working from within. She said most of the people she works with are backing Kerry and think the DimSon is an idiot. And these are twenty-somethings.
